An interesting take on the divisions between states and the citizens in our country...

"The problem our nation faces is very much like a marriage in which one partner has an established pattern of ignoring and breaking the marital vows. Moreover, the offending partner has no intention to mend his ways. Of course, the marriage can remain intact while one party tries to impose his will on the other and engages in the deviousness of one-upsmanship and retaliation. Rather than domination or submission by one party, or domestic violence, a more peaceable alternative is separation.

I believe our nation is at a point where there are enough irreconcilable differences between those Americans who want to control other Americans and those Americans who want to be left alone that separation is the only peaceable alternative. Just as in a marriage where vows are broken, our rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution have been grossly violated by a government instituted to protect them. These constitutional violations have increased independent of whether there's been a Democrat-controlled Washington or a Republican-controlled Washington."

I'm open to the idea. I'd have to move though. Problem is, there is no viable country to move to currently. Let's create one based on the US Constitution.

I think such a place does exist....it's called Texas. I'd have to move too. Living in NY is like living in fantasyland, but in a bad way. The NY Governor thinks if he says it, it must be true. I was in FLA and watched a NYS ad saying NY is open for business. They think giving a small break from our large taxes to businesses will attract new business. Imagine running an ad like that in Florida where there is NO personal income tax. Wonder who though that ad program up???!!!

Have to second Texas. Spoke to a Real Estate broker the other day who told me he's inundated with folk from CA moving to FL. They are also coming from NY in droves too which is why the population of FL has exploded and unfortunately is turning a different color (red to blue):smt089 :smt100!

Imagine if the US was going to split up into red and blue states and there was 12 months to establish permanent residency in the state of your choice, which would become your country of citizenship. You would have a mass exodus of those independent of government handouts from the blue states and a mass exodus of those dependent on government handouts from the red states. You'd have one solvent country and one insolvent country. It would be chaos with all the relocations.

We can’t split because like many divorces, it’s financial suicide. Even though our economy is bad a split would take us into financial and political destruction. We talk about other countries owning us now… wait until we are in chaos with a divided military and un-established interim government.

No, it all sounds good but for what it’s worth we need to try to fix our problems and stay united, at least in the worlds eye.
There is another thread that speaks of Miley Cyrus. This is the new morality that we have let our kids slip into because we lost our own moral compass. So now we sensationalize creeps, make animals higher than humans, pay dead beats to stay home, penalize the working to pay for the entitled………..

It’s time for people with moral conviction to put their collective ba!!s back on and take back what is allotted to us in our constitution. I will not go against my God to bow down to a political system that rejects him on every hand.

Live here a while and you will understand. Housing costs are nuts, taxes are absolutely ridiculous but it has so much diversity in its landscape and the weather is so good. Dilemma! I do not plan on retiring in this state.

Years before I was born, my grandparents generation left liberal New York for a more free New Jersey. That same group of poeple changed New Jersey into what you see today. My generation left now liberal New Jersey to Pennsylvania. Guess what. The east side of Pennsylvania is getting quite liberal and ruining that state now. I moved again, but for different reasons. For all of Wisconsin's issues, you are more free there than in Pennsylvania... for now.

The former Yugoslavia should be a model for America. As one country, they hated and were killing each other. Now, you have 6 peaceful countries that get along well with each other. Those that have the initiative to do well are thriving. Those that don't, live as they wish. It wouldn't be the first time this has been done. We are becoming Yugoslavia.

Oh hell yes!

I think the confederate states should get out and create their own, no rules, no taxes, no health care, low wage, automatic weapons for all country. That would give so many of the discontented a place to go.

Pack, Indiana wants in too...

Upon further review your map misses 7-8 states that would likely want in.

Maybe the sentiments of folks disgusted with the direction of our country the past 50 years or so comes from the fact that a few high density areas wag the whole dog while a liberal blue state media dies all the barking.

A county map of the US indicating how they voted in 2012.

We live and boat in the warm waters of the old CSA. Not a bad thing. We have noticed more northern folks down here than you see southern folks up north. The northerners seem to take to our laid back, black eyed pea and grit eating world.

Based on that map it seems that a better strategy than breaking up the US into 2 or more countries would be a civil war. It would be over quick with a short martial law and arrests of blue state politicians for treason. I don't see them putting up any sort of fight. Just roll into DC, Chicago, Boston, and LA with a few battalions to arrest the traitors. There will be some riots for sure when all the handouts stop, but it should be short lived and contained. An example needs to be set of the traitors and heavy policing of our representatives thereafter.
