Should I get a taser, stun gun or pepper spray?

I honestly don't think she'll have a big problem at Purdont. It's one of the safer campuses. So I would vote for mace and a good dose of situational awareness. Always stay in groups. Be aware at parties, know your limits. Stay away from creeps and get some good honest guy friends. Good luck to to her. And go IU. :)

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Some self defense courses and a good pepper spray. Don't let others know about the pepper spray. Also a good tactical pen. https://www.amazon.com/Defense-Avia...hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583520396085492&psc=1

The logic in that cliche is sound. But saying it sounds too dismissive and irresponsible. And (to me) implies a willingness to go straight to the firearm instead of making good decisions in advance, using situational awareness, and avoiding or diffusing the situation (if possible). It makes us all sound like cowboys, ready to fire at any time. You may disagree. But if we are looking to gain more people (voters) on the gun rights side, macho Wild West cliches isn’t going to do it.

Disagree. We really only talked about non lethal defense in this thread. And it was discussed that people could possibly get into legal trouble for using pepper spray. This advice hold true for that as well. The whole left leaning don't do anything to defend yourself mentality is a big reason criminals have become more emboldened. I am a BB and have trained in multiple MA, but still prefer to have the upper hand against a criminal. That is if all the other training like situational awareness and avoidance failed. Last thing in this world I would ever want to do is shoot or mame someone. But I do not want my last thing to come because I am not prepared either.

Now THAT was well said. People will listen to that. They will tune out when you say “better to be judged by 12..”.

Personally I like the judgd by 12 saying better, takes less time to read. Life is short

My point wasn’t about what one likes better. It was about what approach is more likely to help the cause. If you don’t care about keeping gun rights then sure, spout off cliches that validate every stereotype gun control advocates push about gun owners.

I say just shoot all the customers and suppliers the world would be so much happier

Wasp spray will shoot 20 feet. You get it at lumber store and I have never seen it classified as a weapon or banned item. I suggested to one woman who took very good self defense course and she thought it was a good idea.

I would think Pepper spray would be more likely for a young person to use without hesitation over a knife or taser or a gun and that's the most important thing.

Don't let others know about the pepper spray
This^. Never let anyone know what you have. I'm a 2A supporter but am against open carry. Not necessarily against it, just think it's a bad idea and in most cases only done to show off. Imagine walking into a convenience store and the girl behind the counter sees you have a gun. You walk to the back of the store and a bad guy comes in and the worker yells 'you have a gun, do something' or anything along those lines. You now have become the first target and eliminated any element of surprise. A more likely scenario is the bad guy comes in and sees you with your gun on your hip. Depending on how intent that bad guy is on robbing that store you will be on the ground before you can even think about grabbing your gun. Additionally, open carry may freak some people out. I would just rather not be in that position to have to explain to them why I am legal or waste the time waiting on the police to show up if they panic and dial 911

Thank you. I am a IU fan. Graduated from Ball State.
My daughter is an IU fan too. We go to at least one IU basketball game a year.

It was hard for me to order Purdue sweatshirts. I did not get one for myself.

I’m going to have her read this thread. A lot of good advice.

I put another kid thru ball state…. Okay school. I don’t get the IU thing though not a fan at all

Talking to my sister today that works in a school were they are not allowed to carry pepper spray in the school.
She said they all carry Wasp spray on them and no one in the school says anything about it, As it is not a weapon.
