Lately I'm seeing more and more online articles written by people who are very unhappy with the self-checkout registers in Walmart and other stores. Their reasons vary, but there's no doubt about their being pissed off at them.

I guess I don't get it. I always head for the self-checkout registers if the store has them. The lines move faster (if there even is a line) and I'm in and out in short order.

So, what say you? Do you use them or avoid them? Why?

I like them except for the authorization on some items taking forever. I’m not a huge fan of people and I like the fact that I can bag all my like groceries together. Freezer, deli drawer, raw meat, pantry, by cabinet, etc.

Y’all have seen my bilge, you know I’m OCD

I'm a fan. Use them unless there's a good reason not to.

I don't care for them. The checkout Nazis are always glaring at people like they think they are going to cheat. Then when there is a problem with one of the machines, the checkout Nazi is nowhere to be found.

Self Checkouts are really starting to piss me off. They've removed all of the registers, replaced them with self checkouts, and now half or more of the self checkouts are shut down. Oh, I like to pay cash for my shit, scan my crap and then find out the fucking checkout only accepts credit cards.

My next pet peeve, is the next fucking bag doesn't open when the previous bag is removed from the holder.

God forbid if you buy beer or spray paint.

My curmudgeon skills are being honed.

I was going thru self checkout at Lowe’s the other day… 6 registers all full one lady watching. I start checking thru and going pretty fast … small items and throwing ng them in the bag…..I had two one dollar items about half way in and one didn’t read…. I thought Phuck it if it doesn’t want to read that’s not my problem and kept going….. then I heard a sir sir you missed one….. damn I thought you are good….. how she figured that out… I have no idea

Job killers, plain and simple.
Anyone tells you different just doesn't get it.
Hate them. I like using the people employed for checking out.

Depends on how it’s set up. I like them if I can just scan, pay and go. We never use the one at the grocery store because it requires that you scan and place the item in the bagging area. If you put it back in the cart or scan faster than the computer can keep up, which is usually the case, you have to call the self checkout overlord to unlock the thing.

The thing I don't like about them is as I'm trying to figure out how to work these things, there are always 4 to 5 workers standing at the end of the row of checkouts talking. They could be helping older people checkout.
Then they act as if I'm a thief when I get to the door because I can't remember which pocket I put the receipt in. I have been just walking right by them acting if I can't hear them & making them chase me out to the parking lot. I may as well put my age to work. LOL

The grocery stores haven't put enough thought into the layouts. They need a spot for an empty cart next to the stations. Then scan, bag, once bag filled, place in the empty cart. Once done, you leave your empty cart there and leave with the filled one. Sam's Club does that and it works great.

Here's how it goes for me....1. Shop throughout store and place items in cart....2. remove items from cart and scan,,,,,fight with bag system and place on counter when full.....3. place all filled bags in cart......4. wheel out to truck and place bags in truck....5. when home remove bags from truck and place on kitchen counter....6. remove items from bags onto counter....7. place all items in cupboards.

That whole grocery shopping thing is a time waster. I have to handle all that stuff 7 different times to get it all in my cupboards. The self checkout thing just makes it all the more aggravating. The sweet part is, it's available and I have the money to pay for it. I have spent time in parts of the world where there was little available to buy so this self checkout is sweet in comparison. I do think this shopping online thing and having it delivered may be worth looking into.

Job killers? They can‘t find enough people to show up for work.
I was talking to a head of HR... Her company places/employees 6,000 people across the US for the food service industry ..places like Wendys and such.....she says they average 30,000 W2's a year... can't find people and they don't stay and their average pay is $17/hour.... bring on the robots I say
