I am thinking about upgrading from my 2006 Sea Ray 240 sundeck to a short list of lightly used Sea Ray 250 slx's. I am 95% sure the 250 is what I want but I am having a hard time deciding on the engine. One has a 350 mag but that doesn't seem like enough for that much boat. The other has a 6.2. I have watched the boattest video but how much of an actual difference is there between the 350 and 6.2? An obvious 20 horse difference and maybe an added 2 mphs with the right props but how much can you feel the difference on the whole shot, cruising, etc? The 496 would be nice but it isn't too practical for me as I use it for the family, water sports, cruising, and mainly can't find one anywhere close. I also heard the 6.2 can be problematic because it is stroked, causing a number of issues. While the 350 has proven its dependability. Also if there are any 250 slx owners out there, what is your clearance of the windshield when the boat is on the trailer? I have an 8ish foot door and was wondering if it would fit before I make a road trip. The only other boat i would consider is a Chaparral 256ssi. After I retire in a few years I am planning on a new 270 or 290. Can't wait :smt001 Thanks.

I own the 250slx with the 350 B3. It has performed well. I pull adult slalom skiers out of the water with no hesitation. I bought this boat new in '06, have over 270 hours, and have had no problems. I like to cruise at 30mph. Engine is turning at 4000 rpms at that speed. Probably high when compared to a 496 and for that reason I have often wandered if the fuel consumption would be that much worse with the big block. If i ever upgraded to the 270, i would go with the 496. Sorry, I have no experience with the 6.2.

I figured I would start here and ask those with SLX’s first.... I noticed the last couple times pulling the anchor up, my windless is really moving around. Suspect the bolts may be working themselves loose, but the only access I can see is the small plastic portal cover and I cannot see much through it. I was curious, before going through using mirrors and lights, if anybody has removed the "back cushion" in the bow (above the padded locker seat). Removing this panel would would gain me access to the motor assembly nicely.

I got caught in a pretty good rain this past weekend. Made me realize how much I miss the full canvas enclosure I had on my Crownline. So, I'm looking at getting at least the front and possibly side connectors. However, I have the Sports Arch and it is fiberglass on the front. Has anyone ever tried attaching a strip of some sort to the front of the Sports Arch to attach a connector to?

I'll end up having a local shop make something, but I want to have an idea of how it is going to look before I just say "do it".

Bringing this thread back to life, I hope.

I just bought a 2005 270 SLX late this past fall... basically a brand new boat with 100 hours. I was a week away from pulling the trigger on ordering a new one when I was farting around on Craigslist and came across it at what I thought was the right price. Well, I bought it for a little more than half of that :D.

She's mint, but not configured exactly the way I would have ordered myself-- only has a 6.2 MPI and B3, and no radar arch. The only things I've found wrong with her during the sea trial (and while she's been sitting in my garage this winter) is that the sending unit for the trim tabs is malfunctioning as I get an alarm when using them, and there's a small hairline crack in the topside just above the rub rail just ahead of the windshield. Minor, may fix it before the season starts, but it's not something urgent.

What's everyone's experience with Sea Deck? The boat looks plain, and I think the faux-teak sea decking makes the boats look a lot sharper.

I have a 2007 and tested a 270 with a 6.2......it had a tough time out of the hole and getting on plane. Not sure if there is any major weight difference between the two years though. I couldn't trim the one I tested very well though since it was in February in Connecticut. The hydraulic fluid in the system was too cold I guess.
Sea Deck would really bring the boat to life I think. I'm looking at that as my next yearly upgrade/investment.

I have a thread on here from last week showing my SeaDek install on my 270 SLX.
Looks terrific in my opinion.

I just found this thread and read all 449 posts. Good posts here. Let's keep the thread going.

Ha, I did the same thing last weekend. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Anyway, this post is useless without a pic of my new boat. Here she is at the sea trial, and on land. Smoking hot deal, but wish she had the 496 and the arch. With 110hrs on the clock, she's brand new.

She'll soon be named "Knot Necessary". Been working with a hand lettering guy on designs for painting her name on the hull. For now, she's freezing in my garage, where the ambient temperature in the unheated section read -4°F today.

The old girl, 2002 Larson LXI 210 " 'Bout Time" goes off to her new home in the morning.

Congrats. Really makes me wish I found one with the tower. I might just go the aftermarket route.

Read the posts in this thread. There are positives and negatives for the tower. I seriously question how much shade it will provide. But, damn, it sure looks good.

I'm not super concerned about the shade. More about the appearance and other functions (speakers, possible flood lights, and a place to store skis and paddle board).

In case anyone is looking for vinyl teak flooring for the 270 SLX, Great Lakes Skipper has a set available for ~$500 that I picked up last week. OEM sea ray product for 2014-2015 models fits my 2005 nearly perfectly except for the center ski locker door, which apparently on the newer models has two latches on the door as opposed to one. I'll have to cut that, but the vinyl sheet has blanks in the cutouts for the 2 latches so it won't look too out of place. Will have to wait for it to warm up before I apply the flooring so the material is more malleable but I'm very excited to spruce her up a bit.

Any advice as to how I should handle removing the snaps from the previous carpet? Any good reason to fill the holes in prior to layering the vinyl on top? Or just leave them be?

Wow. That will look great when it is installed. Upload pics after it's done.

Would someone please snap some pics (top and bottom) of the cushions that go in the red circles on a 270 SLX for me? I'm going to have them remade, and photos of the actual cushions will help the shop greatly. Thanks!

Happy to do so, and send measurements if you'd like, but you'll have to wait until next week. Headed out of town right now.
