2 days on the water. Dry storage for now. Anybody try to trailer this big baby? 28 x 9 and 6100lbs dry, seems like a lot to haul.

I don't mind the Dry Storage, but they are a little rough on the boat. Forks, the narrow "Bunks" that it rests on the scraping and marring of the hull bottom, etc.
Plus I left my Trim Tabs down and now the left one is bent from the fork lift. There was much anger. I noticed it right as he brought the boat out of the water but he wouldn't set it down.
Does anyone wet slip for the season then store it on a trailer, or what? I'm looking for options.

As far as performance goes, I get around 50 indicated. My GPS is inop right now, so that speed doesn't really count.
But that was 3 on board (one in the bow), full tank, full water, Bimini Up, no tabs, slight chop.

I love answering questions.
I've got some experience, I love mechanical stuff and have been working on my own, and others, boats, cars, motorcycles, and computers for years.

I really really love this boat. I have been boatless for about 5 years, and it sucked. If you are a boat guy, don't let go of your boat. It ages you.
But now I am back....
Let the Mayhem Begin!!!!

Wow...The SLX/Select EX crowd must be thinner than I thought.

I did some hunting around and Found at least Two Marinas on Guntersville lake that have covered wet slips with built in boat lifts.
Anyone ever seen these places? used one? It's got to be better than Dry storage.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Is there a better place to ask these and other questions? Is there an "As the Stomach Churns" Forum?

Nice boat and congtats. I have done both and strongly prefer a covered slip with a lift for the exact reasons you mentioned. By the way, Bennett offers automatic tab retractors. The tabs fully retract each time you turn the engine off. Try a search.

Thanks for replying! I was beginning to think I was alone.....

No, not blaming him for the bent tab, I just thought he would lower the boat back into the water when I called it to his attention. It was purely my fault for messing with them on the way in. With no indicator it's tough to tell if they are all the way up without getting in the water and checking by feel. However watching my brand new boat bounce on the bunks in the storage area, then picking the boat back up on the tabs then moving it over TWICE, did seem a little excessive, and I wasn't in charge of that part.
I did look up the auto trim retractor unit from Bennett, looks like a good piece of insurance. Are the Tabs that come on the boat re-named Bennett tabs by chance? That would be lucky. Anyone replace the tabs and the rams with Bennett pieces?

I am going to run to the 2 Marinas I found that have the slips with the lifts this weekend and have a look around. Same money, less hassle.
I guess it's just me, but the dry storage Fork lift thing has always been a source of stress and panic on the 3 boats I have had stored that way. it's always a rush, and I always feel like I am being graded in a pass/fail way.
Probably just me. Don't misunderstand, It's not the guys at the Marina, they are stand up no crap guys, Super nice, and all around good eggs. It's the nature of the beast I think.

A lot of people in our area, including myself, dry stack because it includes heated winter storage.

I thought all Sea Rays used Bennett trim tabs. Your dealer should know.

Oh yeah, I can definitely understand the desire for heated dry storage.
The dry storage facility I am using does not have that.

Good to know on the Trim Tabs. I found the Forum, and I'm going to ask over there.

How long is the boating "Season" up there in Michigan?
I used to live in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti when I was a little dude.

Jester....

In theory May through September but in reality, June-August. However we boat almost exclusively in Lake Michigan so our season is probably shorter than others.

Just took delivery of my new 250 SLX and we like it alot. Traded from a 2009 Regal 2520 fully loaded. The regal was just as fast with a 350 and sad to say Regals build quality is much better. Other that that i love my 250 SLX. I had all the floors done in flexi-teak, All floors and anywhere there was a step. Had stereo upgraded to tower speakers and subwoofers and kicker amps. Had underwater lights added and throu-out boat had colored LED lights added.
With a 8.2 the boat will GPS around 52 mph. This is with 38% fuel and just me. (Regal did 53 mph w/ 5.7)

Hi all, just joining the thread as I just took delivery of our new 250. So far we're loving it.

One of the first updates I'm looking to make is the installation of a grill. I used to have a kettle on my dancer, but didn't really care for it. Looking at a Newport or Catalina, but not sure the best way to mount it. Anyone have any pics / suggestions. Ideally Id want something in the wet-bar like on the 300, but I don't think that possible with the limited space on the bar.

Congrats on the acquisition to both of you.
David, I'm surprised that you found the Regal to have better build quality. What are you seeing as the main differences?
I haven't found an area on my 270 that isn't top rate. No bad seams, no rattles or creaks, fit and finish is awesome. I'm not trying to start a war here, I'm really just curious.

Michael, I got the Magma grill with my boat. I don't think I'll ever actually use it. Fortunately you can remove it. It has retractable feet on it, so I could use it at the dock. Sorry no suggestions.

Jester

Jester, which Magma grill is it.. the Kettle Style or the Newport / Catalina style. I'm assuming since it has retractable feet, it's the Newport or Catalina style. If so, did it come with a mount? Do you have any pictures showing it attached to the boat? Also, if you're never going to use it, any interest in selling it :)

I love my 250, but fit and finish the Regal was just as good. Regal uses alot more rubber around the engine hatch and all the doors. Sea Ray engine hatch has none. I have had mine at the dealer 3 times for fixes. Still the windshield rattles over bumps ( they had to remove it and build up under it to make it level) and the door that closes off the front the latch is broken and the dealer has still not ordered part. I called the parts department myself last week to see what the wait is and they told me noone told them to order it. So maybe I got a lemon. Both my Regals 2200 and a 2520 were never not once taken in for anything!
I do like my Sea Ray! Oh When I told them it would'nt go as fast as they garrantted me it would go 55-57 MPH they just turned up the speedo to fool me on one of the service visits. When I got it back it went from showing 49 mph to showing almost 63 mph on speedo. My GPS shows it to be from 6 to 11 mph off. They are not fooling me on that.

Been awhile since I've been on here. Just read thru last 2 years of posts! I have a 2005 27' SLX with the 6.2 and bravo one. I only hit about 35 mph max. My frig crapped out last year. My gear lube is leaking somewhere. Pulled boat and gear lube is good in out drive. Can't find leak. Doesn't seem to leak when out of water. My amp is not working, can't figure that out either. Replacing the manifolds and risers now. Also replacing plugs again. Any recommendations on plugs? I am looking at these performance plugs on amazon (Sold by magnum tuning), anyone ever try them? I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but in 7 years of use thats not too bad. I haven't done too much preventive maint on her. I absolutely love the boat! Thanks for all the advice.

Took our new to us '08 270 SLX out for our first real weekend over the holiday. Gotta say I am very impressed with the boat!! I had a very good riding Crownline 266CCR prior to this boat, but the 270 rode even better. The space we had to roam around is incredible! I still have a lot to learn about this boat, but I'm slowly learning the features. Haven't found anything that I don't like about it!

One quick question though. Being that it was a used boat, it didn't have the carry-on cooler that it originally came with. So, I'd like to find one that will fit in the same area. What size cooler will fit in that area? I should have measured the opening this weekend, but was too caught up in showing off our new boat to everyone at the tie-ups and forgot.

Thanks!!

New cooler fits perfect! Thanks 250SLX!

We are still trying to find that special place for everything, but we're slowly getting there. I'm still missing my old boat, but not nearly as much as I'm liking this new one!!

Another question about a missing piece for this boat. I don't have the jumper plug/cable that is used to power the system to get the engine hatch up if the batteries are discharged or removed. Is that something that I need to go to the dealer for or can I get a replacement online somewhere???

I don't recall that the boat came with a cable. You need a portable power pack or battery with a cable that plugs into the 12 volt power port next to the driver seat to raise the hatch. Never had an issue with mine but always thought it was odd there wasn't a manual option to lift the hatch.
