also check West Marine, if i'm not mistaken, they have a nice Delta anchor for ~$300.

Thanks, guys. Amazingly, they were able to straighten the anchor without damaging it. I saw the outdrive he hit, no damage at all. No other damage to our boat either. Pretty lucky!

Has anyone had any trouble with the DTS? When I shift from neutral to forward I have to push the throttle quite aways before it engages into forward gear. Reverse is fine. This just started and it does not do it every time. It's really no problem if it doesn't get any worse. Is there an adjustment somewhere?

Rol - I haven't had this issue. You should have it checked out. DTS is supposed to prevent this type of issue in replacement of the older "cord" systems. Like the name states, it is all digital. The throttle lever should not lag at all. Good luck

I always have the switch set to "Both" when running, so both batteries take a charge. My auto bilge pump is also attached to the #1 battery. The only reason I change the switch at all is because the guys at our high and dry always forget to turn the switch to off, so I set it to 1 or 2 to make sure I have one battery charged when they put her back in.

Do you not use your shore power?

Hi Guys,

Anyone have an issue with popping the anchor breaker.
I am happy it is there..but it seems to be a little sensitive to strain on the anchor. Mine has popped twice bringing the anchor up.

I agree with you. I'll keep watching it and if it does not get worse before I put it up for winter then I'll get it checked out when I winterize the boat.

Hi,

New to the Forum and our 2007 250 SLX. Love the boat and know the previous owner so know it was well maintained. It's got the 496 Merc with Bravo III and the Corsa exhaust. We bought the boat in mid September with just over 100 hours on it and managed to put another 20 or so hours on.

Hate the thought of putting it up for the winter, but I've got another 2 visits to the lake prior to winterization.

Lots of good info here, thanks for sharing. The only issue I've seen so far with our boat is the occasional "System Fault" error message on the Smartcraft guages. I notice it is associated with the trim indicator guage. Sometimes the trim guage works perfectly, then without warning, I get the dreaded "System Error" message and the trim guage quits working. Moments later, it works again.

I've seen quite a bit if chatter regarding battery switch positions etc, and have wondered about some of this too. The head mechanic at the Sea Ray dealer here has suggested in Spring that I consider putting a battery isolator on the system so the alternator / regualtor will charge BOTH batteries, rather than just the one that is being used. He describes that without that, running the switch on BOTH does NOT charge both batteries. I've been running half of day on battery 1, then switching to battery 2 for the second half of my outing.

I love the look of the Stainless Steel Plow Anchor hanging off the front of my neighbor's 270 SLX ( the guy I bought the 2150 SLX from) and may look to add that to our boat next Spring. If anyone has added a SS Bow mounted anchor to their 250 SLX, please let me know what you used for the setup. I realize it won't come THROUGH the bow like on the 270, but would still like to consider a "clean" setup.

thanks,

Strake

Have you checked your gear lube level? Had the same fault this summer and the gear lube was low which would be connected to the tilt issue.

I have been running on both batteries for the last 3 years with no issues. I don't believe he is correct when he said there is no charging going on if the switch is set to both otherwise I would have had dead batteries long ago.

I have the windlass on my boat. Most SLX owners will confirm that the set up on the 250 and the 300 is a much better set-up than the 270 since you can see the anchor go up & down. I love ours.

Thanks for the tip on checking the gear lube level. I looked briefly at it and it appeared fine, but I'll check carefully when back at the boat this weekend.

Regarding the battery charging, I should have said the way it was described to me, that without a battery isolator, running on BOTH will only charge the primary #1 battery but not the second battery. Perhaps your boat has the isolator.

I'll go onto Sea Ray's website to see what the factory option for the windlass looks like. Sounds like the obvious choice.

thanks again,
Strake

Hello all. Hope everyone is well. Got caught up enjoying my new 270 so much this summer i lost track of the site. Well unfortunately my boat is pulled for the winter. Good news its nearby home in heated storage where i can go and fiddle with it over the winter.

Looking forward to spring already!

Well, the loss of my job compelled me to go do the oil change and winterization myself. I can't believe I've been paying to have it done. Winterizing took all of 15 minutes, and the oil change just a bit longer. Oil and anitfreeze ran about $120. Which means I saved about $360. Now if I screwed up and it doesn't run in the spring, well, ah perish the thought.

As for the batteries, I have the standard dual battery switch on our 2007 270 and can 100% confirm that both batteries charge when running with the switch in the 'BOTH' position.

Now that Hurricane Season 2010 has come and gone, I have put my baby back in the water. I had a full engine service done and a new trim sender installed wheile she was out of the water. I also had some issues with overheating and so I had them check the impeller.

I woke up last Sunday and the bay was flat and so I took her out and wanted to see how she would perform. The boat ran great and I took her up to 42 knots at 5200 rpm and the engine started to overheat, hitting 200F so I took the speed down and openned the engine hatch and it quickly cooled off. Turns out I had some blockage in the heat exchanger which my service tech discovered. When I asked why they didnt find this during the service , he didnt know.

Anyway , on to my question, I think I have too wide a spread between my top spped and rpm I was running solo with full fuel and water on flat seas. The bottom is painted and I replaced the props last spring. Trim tabs were fully retracted.

I think I should be able to do 5o knots at WOT in this boat.

Any ideas?

Hello all.... Just acquired a 2007 250SLX last week. Did the sea trial in POURING rain on Lake Washington, in WA state... not the best conditions, but with 2-3' white caps and major rain, the trial went awesome.. completely un-trimmed, did 54 (speedo) and not even WOT! can't wait to splash native waters here in NorCal over the new year.

This has been a great thread, i have read it all and there is some great suggestions and some unfortunate quality issues... however, the performance and fit/finish sure make me a proud SR owner...

there are a couple issues I have noticed already that I hope to discuss here, but will wait until I can get out of the rain to troubleshoot and report to the group...

We can do about 53 on the GPS with 4 adults. I've touched 55 by myself.

I've read this entire thread and nobody with a 290 has posted. I'm considering buying one of these and would like to know how top speed compares with the 250 and 270. The 290 would have either twin 300 or 320 HP engines. Does anyone know the differences between these two engines and which is better?

Look forward to any replies.

Hi ,
I have a 270slx with Merc 425 HP . I used to hit around 50mph but i'm down to around 45 nowadays with trim half up and half tank full . Yet another disappointment with this boat . It's a sheep in wolf clothing .

On another note , i've had all sort of problems with the boat recently . The engine wouldn't start on a number of occasions .Do you know of a laundry list of parts that need to be changed on regular basis to avoid being stranded out there ? i'm at the point i'm thinking of changing my drive (i've driven the boat 100 hours only ) or even selling the boat and buy an outboard .

vassk1, just saw your post..if it helps I was piloting a friends 290 last summer twin 300hp, 49 mph, 7 adults on board
