i've been out of town working for the better part of 2010. needed to make sure my boat was still there, make sure the freeze didn't crack the block, and wanted to check the lake level.

amazing how a lake can fluctuate in a few months.

Question for the 250 owners. The bolster on the 270 flips up in such a way that the soft top portion of the bolster is what you end up leaning against. This doesn't work too well as the cushion smashes down and puts the top of the wind sheild at eye level for me.

How does the bolster on the 250 flip up? Is it usable to lean against?

I may just change out the base for a telescoping one to lift the seat higher instead.

Same problem on the 250.

That's what I figured, thanks. Looks like the telescoping seat base is in order.

The flip side is that on our 240 my back would be killing me at the end of the day from leaning against the bolster and absorbing the pounding of the waves. Now that I stand up all the time, my knees take the pounding and my back doesn't hurt...

How is thwe height of the seat/bolster on the 270 select?

Is a telescoping base necessary?

On about every boatI have owned, the seat even with bolster up was seemed to low to see throw/over the windshield.

On our 240, I could lean against (or even sit on) the bolster and easily see over the windshield. On the 270 the problem isn't so much the height of the base, but the bolster itself. It is so soft that when you lean against it, it smashes down about 6", which puts the windshield frame right at my eye level (I'm 5' 10"). My thinking was that the telescoping base would raise the seat enough to compensate for that.

Thanks. Good to know. I am about the same height. LEet us know if you find a good, quality Telescoping base that works.

I am closing on my soon to be new 270 slect tomorrow. Although it sounds odd, they still do not have it shipped to Ohio yet. IT should be here in the next week or so.

Lets hope i dont get screwe on this one!

Tim,

Have you located a telescoping base yet? Has any body said any thing about it voiding your sea ray warranty?

Chuck,
Garelick is the OEM for most of Sea Ray's seat bases. They make a telescoping base that matches our existing base, but they only sell to dealers. MM gave me a price of $375 for the base, but I haven't pulled the trigger. One of the CS guys ar Sea Ray suggested the base as a solution, but I didn't ask if it voided the warranty.

Interesting??? I know when I asked about it on the 240 the MM guy said it would void the SeaRay warranty because it would not be safe. You would be too high and could hit the top of the windshield or be ejected from the boat. They would not even give me a price.

With as much freeboard as we have and the height of our windshield, that would have to be a REALLY high base. I think our base is 14". The base I was looking at goes from 14" to 18". MM cost on the base was $300 with shipping. Retail is $599.

You have to wonder how these guys come up with some of this stuff. I had a Mercruiser certified mechanic tell me that you never had to check drive alignment.

Hey guys! Hope all is well.

We're planning on an April 1st launch. Can't wait to get the season started.

When are you all hoping to launch?

Here on the upper Mississippi, they say there's now a 90% chance of Spring floods. So, I'm expecting my usual May 1 launch to get postponed. Two years ago, we couldn't boat in May due to flooding until Memorial Day. So, we boated that weekend and then it rained and the really big flood of 2008 hit. So, no boating again until June was almost gone. Let's hope THAT doesn't happen again.

In April, I'll go down to the boat and start tinkering, installing a flag pole holder, installing new batteries, waxing, puttzing, etc. Hell or high water.

Hmm that's tough Dennis. Last year, we had the boat in early but didn't get much use out of it until July because of the crappy Spring we had up here. Spring and Fall are usually great times to be on the water around here, because all of the tourists/maniacs aren't around, you can dock anywhere, and the weather's typically great. However, last year's Spring was non-stop rain, and our boat was hauled out early in the Fall because of a small outdrive issue. Bummer, but we're hoping to get more use out of it this year.

We had severe flooding in 2008 on Table Rock. Lots of people had to take boats to their docks until sometime in June. We test drove our boat in early April that year when the Corp had all of the flood gates open on the dam. The current created combined with a lot of wind caused 4' white caps in the middle of the lake. We were still able to launch in late April that year, but we were dodging debris all summer. Hopefully we will be in by April 15th. I will go wash and polish the boat early in April. Soccer is over for the spring season on April 22nd, so hopefully we will have lots of May boating this year. May and September/October are my favorite months to be on the lake.

I hope to Launch by May 1st here on Lake Erie.

Last summer up here was a strange one with 20 mile per hour winds from the north. This typical produces 4 foot waves , making boating not quite as fun.

Fortunately I have a pair of jet skiis which can be fun in these conditions.

I am also on a protected harbor where worse case scenario we can get out for some putzing around just to enjoy the water.
