Good thing it's under warranty. Gear replacement can get expensive!

My boating season is already over.:smt089

Sad to hear your boating season is over :smt089
That must have flown by... Seasonal boating is a bummer.

Our season is coming to an end also. Sadly, the mechanic is taking his time on the gear teeth repair and the boat is still sittin' dry. Well, it's been raining, so that's not accurate.. but anyhow, its out of the water until the gear teeth are fixed.

I hope we have a few more weeks of reasonable boating weather after the repairs

Well, it's been over 2 weeks and the boat is still sitting on stilts (supposedly getting repaired, although it doesn't look like anything is getting done). Still holding onto the hope that we'll be able to get a little bit more use out of it before the snow.

Does anyone know much about anti-fouling ? every how long should it be done ?some say once every 3 years others say every 6 months

i am also told that once the boat is out of the water even for a little while it dries up and needs to be applied again .

Anti fowling paint usage is very dependent upon the water where you keep your boat. In many northern lakes many people don't use bottom paint at all. I am sure there are places in the south where people re-coat at once a year or more.

Your best bet is to ask the locals about how they handle bottom paint.

now i am facing a similar problem . Since i anti-fouled my bota i can't even get close to 50mph . The dealer's book says i should be hitting 52-56 at 5000 rpm . Nowhere near that . Very strange

taking mine out this week!

been out of town for the better part of the last month and knowing the boat is just sitting drives me crazy!

Hmmm.. interesting to have another 270 SLX with the same issue. Our boat's out of the water for the winter, so we can only hope for some improved performance come next summer.

All of you year-round boaters need to post up some pictures to make the seasonal boaters jealous!

I'm assuming the UAE water is similar to that of south Florida, very warm and salty. I had my bottom cleaned monthly while it was in the water and pulled once a year for inspection and more cleaning. Every 2 years the bottom was repainted. When I purchased the boat there was no paint on the bottom, after the paint was applied I was shocked at how much top end speed I lost and it took longer to get on plane. I was told it was due to weight and friction of the paint.

I wonder if the type of bottom paint really affects the performance of these low-profile boats. I would assume that just a little bit more drag would slow down the boat drastically, and it seems to be the case in multiple instances. Will definitely consider looking into this before having the marina apply their own bottom paint in the Spring. There must be smoother, thinner bottom paints that do the job just as well.

I did some research on bottom paint a couple syears ago. They do make paint that shouldn't affect performance but you will pay for it. I was quoted a price three times higher than regular paint. Another benefit to regaining your top end is improved gas mileage. You get what you pay for!

had a 280 sundancer with bottom paint - no problems that I was aware of.... necessary with that boat...

I personally didn't want to put any paint on a "sport boat" so I keep mine on a lift

Hi. It would be great to have another 270 SLX on the site (not very many). We have a 2009 270 Select EX (SLX) with the 496 MAG. It's definitely a fun boat, for sure. It's fast, great handling/maneuverability. We often find ourselves in nasty open-ocean conditions out here, and this thing handles extremely well.

We bought this boat brand new in April 09, and there were some issues that we've had over Spring/Summer/Fall '09. We purchased this boat after having a 2003 220 Sundeck, which we had absolutely no problems with whatsoever.
- Cracked sink countertop (from transport)
- Windshield wiper broke/flew off (from normal use... bought a much better one at West Marine and installed ourselves)
- Speed issue (Boat should be going up to ~52-55mph, but we've only gotten ours up to ~43 with only 2 people on board, on a perfect calm day)
- Engine overheated (most likely sucked up a plastic bag or something)
- Missing gear teeth from the outdrive (we were not able to figure out what caused this, but it was fixed under warranty. Unfortunately this caused us to miss out on about a month of boating :smt009)
- Bimini top broke off (probably from being in rough conditions rather frequently)
- Windlass Anchor doesn't always work properly

So far, we are very excited about this boat. It's definitely an impressive boat, and despite the issues we've had so far, we are not discouraged by Sea Ray's Select EX. We are hopeful that these issues were just because it was a brand new boat and all the kinks needed to be worked out. We will be putting the boat back in the water in April, and are hopeful that we don't have any more little problems for the up coming boating season!

Good luck with your purchase, and please do not be discouraged by our (minor) issues. I figured that you should know about the minor things that we've dealt with on our SLX, rather than just tell you that this is a flawless boat.

Overall, this boat has allowed us to go to farther places than we could've on our 220 Sundeck. This boat is much more comfortable on longer trips, and it's just an overall great boat. We're very hopeful that our boating season of 2010 will be more successful and that all the issues will have been worked out!

We absolutely love ours. Fast, handles like a sports car, handles big water easily and has lots of storage. The 496 is a must if you want a good hole shot. I drove a 6.2 and it was a little sluggish on the start.

Had to get past some quirky things like the tow ropes getting caught on the grab handles on the swim platform (not a problem if you have a tower, but you can't pull tubes from the tower). Also the design of the walk through door/seat back is not too good. The vinyl kept getting torn from being opened and closed. A crafty tech came up with a solution: acrylic corner edging like like you would use in your house to protect a wall corner.

Aside from a leaky shaft seal that caused a loss of gear lube, our only other issues were the result of poor dealer prep, which they corrected.
