Select EX Thread

It picks up water and showers it over the drive unit to keep it cool. It's said to especially helpfull for Bravo IIIs which tend to run hotter. A cooler drive shoul last a bit longer as the gear oil won't break down and lose lubricity. That's the theory. The white stuff that builds up on the drive is mineral deposits from water evaporating on a hot surface. With the drive shower and the cooler drive, the mineral deposit thing is also helped.

Who the heck said SKXs are made in China? Is Tennessee part of China now? WTF? Things change so fast these days.

Dennis

judging from the quality of my SLX i can easily believe it's made in china . i have 30 hours on the clock and so far both pumps , arches , stereo , fridge , seats ...(stopped counting) had to be fixed/replaced .

I'm assuming it keeps the out drive cool.

I'd never seen nor heard of one before, just googled it.

Wow... nothing but problems, huh?

Had a great ride on the boat this evening (WITH ONE PROBLEM OF COURSE). The boat ran okay, at the right temperature and everything, but seemed a bit more sluggish than usual. We were last out on Sunday, and it seemed to run great then. After our little ocean cruise this evening, we pulled back into the harbor to head back to the marina... that's when the boat started making a very loud clicking sound. Like the prop was hitting something? In neutral, no noise. In forwards, a lot of noise. In throttle only mode, no clicking either. So it definitely has to do with the drive. Could the counter-rotating props be skimming each other? At the dock, I raised the trim all the way to see if I could see anything protruding from the bottom/prop/etc. and I just saw some barnacles, but that's normal.

Any ideas?

Did it get louder/worse when you turned the steering wheel?

Nope but the trim was acting up. I had it trimmed up to level 4 out of ten (at no wake speed in the harbor) and it was fluctuating on it's own down to 3 and then up to 5. And back again, etc.

i am really annoyed boating season just started but my engine won't .
Changed the batteries , they were drained , and still no sign of life .
Bilge , blower , lights , pump are all working just fine but the temperature/pressure gauges aren't moving neither is stereo . Any ideas ?

That's annoying, wassim. Can't help you with your issues... sorry

Today, we had an engine alarm -> Engine Sensor Absolute Manifold Not working properly....

or something like that. WOW SEA RAY. WOW.

Needless to say, I'm already pissed off that our boat is brand new (2009), purchased in April, and we've already had so many problems.

To ice the cake... the bimini top collapsed today. Wasn't even out on the water ... collapsed at the slip. The starboard side windshield mount of the front support of the bimini just completely came off. Sea Ray = FAIL

Check back of the ingnition switch to make sure all of the wires are attached. I had the same problem with our 240.

Wow! Sorry you guys are having so much trouble. We have had a few minor cosmetic/design issues, but the mechanicals and electrical systems have been bullet proof for us.

You can't blame everything on SR. Do you look your boat over....check stuff? Grab a screwdriver once in awhile and make sure things are tight. A few minutes here and there will go a long ways in preventing problems. After reading about all your troubles I'm starting to feel sorry for your boat.

You guys are lucky!

Thanks Woody... We know how to maintain our boat, whether is be tightening up a few screws, or simply cleaning it. Seeing as you don't have a Select EX model, you would not be able to relate on reliability and maintenance of this particular model - it is much different than our 220 Sundeck.

Looks like it's just me and wassim with the mechanical issues.

Anyway, the boat has just been hauled out this afternoon to be looked at by a mechanic - to diagnose that very loud knocking sound coming from the outdrive. Hmm.. we shall see.

I stand corrected. I didn’t realize the 496, B3, sensors, bimni hardware, windshield wiper, trim tabs, etc on the 270SLX were unlike those on any other SR.

Clearly you don't understand "reliability and maintenance of this particular model." Stop raping this thread. :smt018

no real issues here!

boat is going into the shop monday for warranty work. sea ray is replacing three cushions (lucky they are covering this), nav, and glass on the one of the gauges.

nothing big after a summer of hard use.

Thanks!

The mechanic said something about missing "teeth" on the outdrive. Not sure what this means but he ordered the parts and we should splash back in the water by the beginning of next week. Too bad the boating season is coming to an end :smt009

Anyway, hope all is well

Good thing it's under warranty. Gear replacement can get expensive!

My boating season is already over.:smt089
