Ah yes paul I know where that is went past it when I went up the hawkesbury there's an island there full of houses just before that really cool looking big bridge? That's a beautiful area!!
Definately a thought my friend !! Would be neat if we were neighbors, do you live up near to there or have to drive a ways to get to your boat? What's the community at the marina like sort of like what Ozzie described people hanging out in dock at their boats?

Have to see how it all pans out! I may have a spot right neat Bondi working on it that would be the prefect spot for me!
I am now at day 3 on the water and starting to already go a bit stir crazy! So will take the boat into DH for the day tomorrow and go home it's only 25 bucks for five hours. Plus need to pick up some supplies. My inverter died on me let out a huge spark I opened it up changed out the fuses and it just blew again it's dead! Have to have one as I will go nuts without my computer out here!! Would have to run the gen constantly just to keep the comp and my phone up makes no sense to spend that much in fuel just for that.
Plus will pick up a solar panel kit with regulator only makes sense to get all this if I might be living on her for a bit!

Been trying to edit that video but run out of power with my laptop! Don't want to put the raw file up as its 15 mins nobody wants to watch a boat going along for 15 mins so I have been speeding up the boring parts and slow it down when a landmark or anything interesting is on! Got it down to five mins. Will get it finished tomorrow when I'm in DH and have power!

My cousin has been told he has to get his boat out of there dunno how he's going to do it and the things he is saying as solutions are crazy!
It's a 62" north sea trawler all wood. The electrical system is fried and that's jut one of the problems. It's out of the water on a ramp now well sort of when the tide comes up the water is about half way up the hull. Here's the thing the whole bottom needs redoing and leaks bad so bad in fact when the tide comes up the water level inside the boat matches the tide level even with four bilge pumps running!
He's talking about putting this rubber stuff and copper panels where it leaks. And taking it into the bay it's crazy! It doesn't float has no electrics don't think he's ever used the engine says the gen works but with his wiring being completely shot what good is that. He says between the rubber and copper and having bilge pumps always on he won't sink! I think it's an insane idea and he will end up on the bottom of the bay! Just nuts!! I really hope he doesn't do it it's just a stupid idea. He just doesn't want to let the boat go can't blame him for that but I don't think this is a solution!

Got the go ahead to go into bertprevent thing is on hold for another week. Of course a wicked storm rolled in and I can't get off the swing mooring alone lol figures. Ran out of supplies so made a run in with the jet to have some dropped off to me. Wow that was one crazy trip got it all on video :)

Hi Paul,

Sometime ago you purchased a remote for your bow thruster, which model do you have? My system is a "side-power" unit and I have purchased the remote, I also thought it came with the transmitter ( haven't received it yet but now being told I need the transmitter) The unit cost me $430 how does it compare with yours in price. Everywhere I have read is that it's plug and play..I can just pig bank it on from my already hardwired joystick..is this the case??

Ozzie

Hi Ozzie,

I got the model which controlled both bow and stern thrusters as a kit which included the receiver. Just had a look and I paid $660+GST. The unit was almost plug and play - just had to get either a 12 or 24v power feed for the receiver from the same batteries the thrusters run off.

Have you managed to get out on the boat much lately?

Paul

Thanks Paul,
so it looks like they have only sold me the hand held..bugger!!! I have been out a few times lately...i am in the process of building a helm station near my platform. This is so I can back into the berth without having to rely on the camera...Had a bit of a scare the other week as when backing in the sun just obliterated my vision and that of the camera..Quickly had to push the side window open as far I could and stick my head out to be ale to see where I was going..

Ozzie

Ozzie: so you have to rely on a camera to reverse? I guess it makes sense with the helm being up the front of your salon indoors right? Damn that must have taken some getting used to and been tricky at first!
Pretty crazy story re the sun in the camera! How much could you actually see with your head stuck out the window? Just the one side man that's something Damn good job on still making it safely like that !!

Guys got a question about the fuel cross over system. If I want both engines to say draw fuel off the port tank only do I just turn both switches to the port tank? I'm guessing how this works but they didn't explain it very well in the manual. Pic attached. I would like to go in on just the port tank as my tanks are badly unbalanced from generator usage.

My first video with the Gopro Hero HD2, did not turn out perfect still have to get it all down just right yet editing and the filming but not bad for my first one...the video is a compressed version not in HD as i am on the boat so the upload took forever as it is..next one i will do at home and just let it run overnight so the video is full HD. Its of the 4 K run i took to get a new battery from Rozelle bay to Athol Bay by taronga zoo. Shows all the sites along the way, the Anzac bridges old and new, the Sydney harbor Bridge and opera house, Fort Denison and finally Taronga Swing Moorings! Many of the Areas i have been talking about over the last year.Enjoy!

Ok, I was an original subscriber when this thread started waaaaay back but have been away awhile. It appears that I came back just in the nick of time with only a couple of weeks to spare!

Cop: Great to have you back my friend!! I remember you well, you were always around and had so much great advice for me all the time! One of the people that really helped me along the way!! Where have you been? and great to heard from you again!! Will you be around a lot more again now? Your boat looks so awesome in your sig pic!! so streamlined and amazing looking!

Ian: I will be sure and save a spot for you, but your wife may beat me up!!! She was so nice when we met would not want her to hate me because her husband is on my boat applying sunscreen to bikini models haha i know your JK :)

So yeah that will be a good video you all will like... we also have the red bull x games coming up on cockatoo island will go early get a spot right up front for that! maybe even bribe one of the participants to attach the cam to his helmet lol ..Then there will be harborlife and new years and so many other great events to film now that i have this great cam .. going under the boat soon, will mount that thing to my head for it lol
Just messing around for now with the videos learning how to use the camera and do the editing in final cut pro ...one more practice one is almost ready in full HD this time.. want to get good at it all for the really good vids!

I will be able to go back in berth until next friday then its game over! already found a few possible locations to go initially will have it all figured out by friday! One is a swing mooring in a place called drummoyne but don't really want to go there ..another option is at anchor in a bay ..i met a guy that has a huge 67 sail boat he has been living in the bay for over a year ..he suggested i just anchor next to him and he will watch the boat when I'm not there as he's always home! theres a spot right nearby to leave the jet and to park my car, also water and fuel / pump out five mins away so may be a perfect situation ! Then there is the possibility of a dock behind some ones house in Point piper five minutes away from my home in Bondi so i have a few good options! Its probably for the best all of this happened as that spot i have been in is far from ideal you guys would not believe how hard it is just to climb onto my boat..well at least it got me good at docking squeezing into a spot where i have about a foot on each end...no room for error!! Walking the boat sideways into that in wind and current can be quite an experience!

OK new video coming when upload is finished...its short and sweet another jet run in rough weather with slow motion effects when i hit waves etc...again these are just for practice nothing spectacular or too interesting!

Holy crap a 5 minute video in full HD 11 MP wide screen is almost 9 GB this is definately going to be an overnight upload... scary how big are the files going to be for say a 20 min video of hot girls in bikinis flouncing around the boat will take a week to upload at broadband speeds but worth it haha makes sense as each frame is 11 Megapixels and a six minute movies has thousands of frames.

Ozzie: Dont you have one of these Gopro cameras? cant believe they are only 300 bucks a few years back this thing would have been 10 k! Hows the helm station coming along?

Hiya Doug :) Thats what i did with the first video but kind of want these to be in full HD the image quality is just stunning how it comes out from the camera, worth the upload wait even if it takes days.. When i first got back to Australia after living in the USA for over 20 years one of the things that surprised me was how internet plans worked here.. A few years back most plans had data limitations... you would pay say 60 bucks a month and get say 2 or 4 gigs a month if you exceeded the qouta your account would get what they called throttled back to dial up speeds until the next pay cycle!! It really sucked as i always went over and back in the states i never heard of such a thing the companies back there wouldnt dare too much competition and they would get no customers haha now if i still had a plan like that for sure but now the unlimited data plans have become affordable :) Even my iphone has unlimited data now for 2 bucks a day...
I have noticed you know a heck of a lot about engines and just everything else to do with boats from what you have written here and in other threads are you a mechanic by trade or just all experience?
