So I made it all the way back to about 100 feet from my marina and I stalled (which happens if I put it in neutral too fast). No big deal so I go to start it up again (2004 SR 220) and when I turn the key I feel something break inside the switch and now the key just freely turns. Cannot start the boat. Luckily a jet skier was able to grab a bow line and pull me the remaining 100 feet.

Now I've got the switch out - it's a Sea Dog replacement I guess the PO must've put in who knows when. It's got 4 prongs on the back labeled B, S, I and A. (For reference B hooks to the red with blue stripe wire. S connects to yellow with red stripe wire. Light blue wire goes on I. And red wire and black wire both hook up to A).

This one looks like a drop in replacement but it's the same plasticky looking one:

I was shocked at how easily mine broke.

Here's one that looks like it will fit in the dash hole, and it's made out of brass: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301277358077

Anyone have any advice as to what I should get? Thanks.

For reference B = Battery, A = Accessory, S = Solenoid, I = Ignition

Go with Cole Hersee, any day of the week. Top notch products.

For future reference, connect the red and red w/purple (looks like blue) wires together. Then touch the yellow wire to them to start the engine. That's "Boat Hot Wiring 101" :smt001

Your shift cable may need to be adjusted or replaced to fix the "stalling" issue. Or, possibly, you have a flaky or dirty shift interrupt assembly or linkage.

On a side note... your signature... is it an MPI engine? That's 260HP. A carb'd engine (5.0L) would have been 220HP.

Thanks for the advice. Yes it's MPI so I guess 260

If I was stuck far off I definitely would have been able to hot wire it. Boats have very insecure ignitions, just like the motorcycles I've built.
