After much deliberation, we made the tough call to leave the Sailing Emporium in Rock Hall for Skipjack Cove on the Sassafras River. We've been at the Rock since 2002 and everyone was ready for a change of scenery, plus Skippies is 40 minutes closer to home.

My family and our two other cruising companions will now be frequenting the humble confines of the many spots on the Sassafras and North East Rivers, Cabin John Creek, Veasey Cove and Bohemia River, Chesapeake City and Havre de Grace. And now that we're closer to the canal, I can see a Jersey trip or two in our 2010 plans. We'll still do BIH, Annapolis, St. Michaels and Cambridge... and of course Rock Hall.

Don't worry Stillpond fans, we'll still be a fixture there too.

He's not on the Bay... That's a freekin' ditch up there. They have houseboats cruising around in that area.

I grew up boating on the Sassafras. My family moved our boat to Rock Hall after about 6 years on the Sassafras and I hated Rock Hall. Of course I was a kid. But even now I think the Sassafras is a much nicer area, lots more to do. Get used to eating at the Granary and Kitty Night House, both are great!

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Sassafras, we are just around the corner from Skip Jack at Sassafras Harbor. This will be our 6th year at the harbor; we like the river in spite of the 7 mile ride to the bay and hi fuel cost. But you will learn as we have to top off the tanks before heading back. Some great places to anchor just inside of the no wake area. Did you get a good deal at Skip Jack? I heard they had a few open slips this past year. Hope to see you on the river.

When we lived in PA we had our big boat at Skipjack... we really liked it on the river...marina was awesome bar/restaurant was fun....great people...pool was fantastic for the kids...

We dingyed all over the place..... great spot !!!

Welcome to the Sass. We are literally your next door neighbors at Duffy's. We love the Sass and it has some nice beaches for the kids (Abby 8 and Emma 7)and dogs (Maisy the Jack Russel and Chloe the English Bulldog). We are out almost every weekend. If we are not within the 6 we are at still pond. Look for the "Red Neck Yacht Club" flag and we'll toss you a line.

I saw that coming!

You're right Gary, it doesn't get any less manly than a river 160 miles from the ocean called "Sassafras", but it sure is nice. Did you go up the Sassafras in your trip in '07?

On the restaurant front, it's not much different from Rock Hall where we went to two restaurants (Harbor Shack and Waterman's) repeatedly. In addition to the Kitty Knight House and the Granary, Skipjack has a restaurant on site that looks decent and there are a few smaller places along the access road that leads to the Granary.

In addition, it looks like there are a few places in Galena (Twinny's, Jimmy-something's crab shack and a pizza place), which is a short bike ride away.

The dinghy situation was a major deciding factor. Our kids love tubing and wakeboarding and Swan Creek down Rock Hall way was a great place to do that, up until July when the nettles came. It looks like there are many choices for such activities on the Sassafras, including the mile and a half or so above the draw bridge.

We'll see. If it sucks, we'll leave! That's the beauty of a boat. If you don't like the scenery... change it.

Vince, the name of your boat seems familiar. Surely we've seen you at Stillpond. We're the maniacs that usually have the swim platforms of three big boats up against the spit at the old Coast Guard station.

Tim,
It’s like choosing between crab cakes and lobster, both are fantastic. Hard to go wrong with either. It will put you closer to Still Pond though.

:thumbsup:Hey, were at great oak. Stop in and have a drink one day. Were on the bulkhead over near the travel lift E- dock 217.Lady Ashley 560 sedan bridge. look foreward to seeing yuo at the tiki bar.

Your leaving floating slips for fixed slips?
I have several friends @ SJC its a great property and the Sass is beautiful but the tidal swing and fixed slips can be a pain. And it also take forever to get out to the bay since its mostly nowake. However there is allot for the kids.

It's only no wake in front of the marina to about 1/2 mile down river (toward the bay) and then only on weekends. Once you pass $1.98 Beach, you can crank her up.

That's the best spot at Still Pond. Close enough to just throw the kids and dogs on the beach without having to "taxi" them.

See You There!

$1.98 beach is across the river and just slightly west of Skipjack Cove Marina. You will see LOTS of boats anchored there almost any weekend. It got its name because that's about how much fuel one uses when motoring to it from Skippies.

Festivus..you will like the Sassafrass great river. We will be moving up that way in Feb, having a house built in North east. House is 3 miles from the Nauto Goose on the North east River. However, We decided to keep the boat in Middle River for now we shall see how the commute is to the boa tthis year and if not we will move it closer to home.
