A favorite pass time there on 2 tide days, was to snag the drunks that fell off their boats, or tried to swim to shore during peak outgoing tides. Best anchorage if you get there early enough is in the little cove on the SE side of the sandbar coming off the West side of the island. No current, close enough to shore to swim or paddle. But on holidays, all bets are off. Haulover chit show, with lots of music blasting. The residents call it the Red Neck Riviera. Been that way for as long as I can remember, and that's a loooooong time.I'll let one of the locals confirm, but I think it's pretty skinny in there.
I forgot to mention to make sure you enjoy some time hanging out at the Jewfish Key sandbar (inside of Longboat Pass). Make sure to pay attention to tides there.
