Does anybody else find it not only annoying, but also rather insulting, when a person, with probably 5 or less posts, writes and asks questions, but does take the time to add punctuation marks, such as periods, commas, question marks, or capital letters, etc., and just runs on and on, not to mention run on wording without stopping, so that we have to figure out what the h*** they are asking?
Im seeing it more and more.....:smt009 :smt009

For example:

This not a good example because of the context, but I think you understand what I mean.

Thank you for listening.

Did you mean "Run-on wording" or "Wrong wording" in your topic? Just had to give you a hard time about sooooomething.

As for your question. I do find it annoying and it bugs me when people do that. Even worse is when they write a question in all caps......I still haven't figured out what would compel someone to do that!! :smt017 I just try to ignore it. I have noticed a direct correlation between a poorly worded/thoughtout/spelled/etc questions and helpful answers. I guess they will just never know.....or they will learn how to use the search question very quickly.

Actually, I did mean "Run-on Wording".
So sorry... :smt017 :smt017 :smt021 :smt021

Steve:

I think you might have meant to say".....but does NOT take the time to add punctuation........)

Sorry, I'm a Quality Engineer by trade, and couldn't help myself. In any event, I knew what you meant.....

Cheers,

Bill

Maybe because I am poor at grammar I am not bothered by it.

I’m also poor at golf. I shoot about a buck five a round, but its an honest buck five.

I’ve felt pressure by so called ‘low handicapped’ golfers to hurry my shot since I’m not very good anyways. Of course this makes me hit the ball even worse. When this happens, by the end of the round I wish I had not went golfing.

When I golf with friends, even friends that have low handicaps, they let me play my game and it normally results in my lowest possible score. Plus I don’t feel pressure and have fun. In the end I am glad we went golfing and got to spend time with friends.

If a fellow board member gives me a thank you after receiving helpful advice from me it makes me feel appreciated and I am happy to have helped.

If I felt my posts we being evaluated based on grammar I’d stop posting.

PS: OK, you got into my head so bad this is my third edit of this post, trying to fix grammar errors. Likely there are more remaining mistakes. My apology to be annoying you.

This isn't going to turn into another big boat discussion is it??? :smt100

Doug,
Please do not misinterpret the intent of this posting.
Everybody, but everybody makes mistakes, particularly in grammar, as was so eloquently pointed out in the above replies to my errors.
This is a fact of life, and very well acceptable.
Shame on me, as was indicated previously. :smt021

I have to point out to you, that I use the "Hunt and Peck" typing method, in that I "hunt" out the key, and then "peck" it. :smt024

My intention was to point out the posters that just type 1000+++ words a minute to blurt out their queeries, hit the "submit" button, and go about their day, with no concept as to how it may read to the potential problem solver.

Please do not read anything more complicated into it than that.

Cheers right back at you, and happy boating...

Everyone is just cranky cause their boat head is too small.

Steve,

I happen to agree with you 100%. We all make mistakes from time to time, and I can deal with that. But the folks who omit punctuation and capitals and use poor grammar penalize themselves more than the rest of is. More times than not misplaced punctuation and unclear modifiers change the entire meaning of what the poster is trying to ask or convey. I for one, will take the time to try to help someone with their boating question, but when I also have to guess at the true meaning of a question in addition to trying to fix their boat, I probably won't invest the time. So poor grammar may net a completely wrong answer and cause others to never be offered.

I also have some difficulty with the over use of email or home brew abbreviations ..........does every single sentence need to be punctuated with LOL, BFD, OMG, BTW, IMHO, U, R, etc.........and does LOL mean that the sentence that precedes it, which usually was not funny at all, is more funny than one ended with lol?

And those danged smiley faces......the administrator would do us all a favor if he charged $1 for every one used.

BTW IMHO this isn't a big boat thing lol but it may be an OMG age related affliction LOL...............

Golf, now that's a game I haven't played in a couple of years. I guess I should start boating less and get out on the links more. On second thought.................maybe next summer.

:smt043 LOL! Sebagoman007 saw that "not" was missing too. I'm partial to details myself, I hate to see mispelled words. Drives me nuts! :smt021

ok.. I'm guilty..

and I don't totally disagree by any means...

I think I've been reading this board too much anyway.. sure will be glad to get ON the water instead of just trying to live it through here.

Perhaps this is callous or selfish, but here is my thought on those incredibly poorly-written posts.

I hate posts which are a jumbled run-on sentence lacking punctuation. Trying to make sense of them gives me a headache. I think it's the original poster's job to clearly state their need or question.

My feeling is that if people who "write" such poor posts are making other spend time guessing what they need, where a little extra time - and punctuation - would clear things up. If they don't have the time to make an attempt at cogent post, I don't have time to make a reply.

I think I'm guilty of posting too quickly as to not proofread, but try my best to spell and puncuate properly.

Turtle tone - the head comment is funny. (no "Emoticons")
