Steve,

I happen to agree with you 100%. We all make mistakes from time to time, and I can deal with that. But the folks who omit punctuation and capitals and use poor grammar penalize themselves more than the rest of is. More times than not misplaced punctuation and unclear modifiers change the entire meaning of what the poster is trying to ask or convey. I for one, will take the time to try to help someone with their boating question, but when I also have to guess at the true meaning of a question in addition to trying to fix their boat, I probably won't invest the time. So poor grammar may net a completely wrong answer and cause others to never be offered.

I also have some difficulty with the over use of email or home brew abbreviations ..........does every single sentence need to be punctuated with LOL, BFD, OMG, BTW, IMHO, U, R, etc.........and does LOL mean that the sentence that precedes it, which usually was not funny at all, is more funny than one ended with lol?

And those danged smiley faces......the administrator would do us all a favor if he charged $1 for every one used.

BTW IMHO this isn't a big boat thing lol but it may be an OMG age related affliction LOL...............

sometimes the smiley faces are good..

if i were to say something twards a person and might think they might take it in a bad way i would throw in a

this makes it appearant that you were just kidding and didnt mean for the person to take it personal.

But yes even I go back to posts and edit them. When i see something that i spelled wrong or thought it might be offensive.

When you answer emails and talk in the net alot, those little short cuts actually stick to you and you forget that they are not using proper writing skills.

Funny story my brother goes for a job and on his job aplication he uses some of those words and i tell him whats wrong with you.. He says " Yea when it asked me for experience i put, "yep i luv to do dis kind of werk. lol :)" and i told him what the hell is wrong with you.. hes like i swear i really didnt notice i did that until i went back and re-read it and got another app and re-did it. hes online all day sending im's so i guess he just got cought up..

but anyway on this thread i understand what its like when someone writes a responce, and it feels like a run-on sentence! Its very annoying. But i think its not that the people are not intelagent, its just that they are used to the computer way of saying things. Remember its hard to express yourself in the net. Have any of you ever gotten into a arguement with someone on a forum, but when you meet them your like "oh man hes cool as hell". this is a prime example of a REAL PERSON and a guy BEHIND A COMPUTER.

Thats my 2 cents.

now what drives me crazy to the point where i want to just yell is when someone tries to quote someone and tries to change it and does it wrong and it will look like this...

Yes sir, I'm at a loss as to what most of those abbreviations mean.

Quite some time ago, my son was sending e-mails from his ship, and used "lol", even though it was, in fact, after he wrote something humerous, and, although I felt foolish at the time, I literally had to ask him what it meant.
I thought for a brief moment that it was some kind of Navy code.

To quote another "younger generation" expression,

"My Bad!"....

All I wish to convey in this posting is that in order to assist, and there's no doubt whatsoever that someone here does in fact have the answer or possible solution to a given problem, the question should be posted clearly and concisely, so that guesswork is kept to a minimum.

Absolutely nothing more complicated than that. (this is not a complete sentence, but I realize that.)
Thank you everyone for your understanding....

Well said and glad that you did it!!!!

If you decide to answer a posting it should be posted clearly and concisely, so that quesswork is kept to a minimum as well.

I will agree with the issue of being asked a question where the question lacks the ability to give a reasonable answer.

Example:

Question: My boat will not go. What’s wrong?

Suggested answer: Do you have the sail up?

Man, everyone is really coming up with threads to get things off their chests! I would think with these threads we would be in the middle of the winter cramped up in our homes, not the middle of the summer. I think everyone needs to get out on their boat and off of this forum for awhile. It looks like a case of forum fever!

I think it's more like the mid-week "Im wishin I was on my boat instead of at work" syndrome...

Well, the only things I hate more than bad gramer is not having someone on the dock to help me with my ropes and not being able to shut the door to the head on my not litle boat.

"Bad gramer is something up with which I will not put!"

Director's comentery: "notice how I was able to weev 4 threads into one post."
