I had my last day of work yesterday. I get to meet with HR today to turn in my work badge, then I'm officially retired.
I've been a union electrician for 36 years, working the last 13 in maintenance on the Hanford site. It's home to the worlds first nuclear reactor where they made the plutonium to help end WW2.
I am 58 and was planning on retiring at 59 1/2, but my job is covered under the presidential mandate for federal workers, and I made the decision after meeting with a couple financial advisors that it's time to go enjoy life.
My wife is 3 years older than me and will be retiring at the end of December.
I'm pretty excited for this next phase in life, and hoping it's not a short phase.
