Rescue Tape

Holds back 700psi and 500 deg.

Saw this on a bumper sticker:
"DUCT TAPE IS LIKE THE FORCE, IT BINDS THE UNIVERSE TOGETHER"

In the flying business, we have a heavier version of 100mph tape called "Speed Tape." They use it on the outside of the aircraft in certain situations. It comes as part of the aircraft on the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizers (tail) on the F-15 from the factory - it's even painted over.

I test flew a jet in Puson, SK, that had new stabs. At 1.9 mach, the tape held fine. That day, there was a landing gear problem. They fixed it over night. The next day, when I tested the jet again, all I had to do was burn down gas and then try the landing gear. With tons of gas, I got to 2.2 Mach. After landing (gear was fine), the Koreans helped me out of the jet and just kept repeating, "Too fast, too fast."

They showed me the tail. I melted the speed tape off of the leading edge of the stabs. 8 days later, I flew the jet home. First thing I did was run to the 2nd and 3rd jets next to mine - no speed tape - THANK GOD!

That day, I was wearing a leather jacket that I bought in town the night prior - it's still my favorite. I have the speed tape in a box in the attic with other memorabilia - it's signed by the Koreans with "2.2 Mach" and the date written on it. Good stuff.

Wow John, good stuff! 2.2 must have been some feeling...thats frikkin fast!

Speed tape sounds like it could kick duct tape's ass.

Back in the Air Force, we called it F-4 tape, that's what held the F-4's together.

There's some pics floating around the net about a bush pilot in AK that landed with food in the prop plane. When he came back a griz had just about destroyed the skin to get to the food. He patched everything up with tape and flew it out...
