Replacing holding tank

If you can find an exact replacement, that would be the easiest way to go ie; same connections and fits in same location. Not sure where your tank is on your boat, but that is the way I would proceed, unless I was up sizing the tank capacity. Good Luck.

I would suggest searching out Boogabooster here on the site. He also has a You Tube channel that is excellent. He posted a video here of removing the holding tank in his 400. It would be very helpful.

The direct replacement tank should still be available. Based on the location you are going to have a hard time getting it out without pulling the Starboard engine. Might be doable but tight. Hardest part will be getting it to rotate enough in place so you can pull it to the center of the bilge for removal.

Not proud of this, but I've removed a few tanks in my days. It would help if you had a bunch of pics for us to look at, but usually with a single engine it's not too bad. But with a twin engine in a relatively narrow beam for a twin engine config, you may (likely) have to remove other things.

I assume your gennie is actually in the center? There's a chance that may have to come out, but it depends on whether or not there's enough room to maneuver and sneak the tank by. Take some measurements - slight chance that at least the staboard manifold (possibly engine, too) will need to come out, as well. What will work for one boat, won't necessarily work for another - depends on an number of factors... size of the hatch, how deep the engines sit, other structures, etc.

Are you 100% positive the leak is coming from the tank? If so, am I guessing correctly that it's coming from the base area - probably around one of the mounting points? Speaking of mounting points, you only need to remove the two on the inboard side - you don't need to remove the ones of the outboard side. It'll slide out from the remaining two.

The holding tank is located on the starboard side forward of the engine and the genny is centered up and out of the way. I think after removing the hoses and wiring for the maserator you should be able to manuever it sideways and pull it out without removing an engine. I'm sure it will be tight as with everything on the 280's but I think it would be doable.

if needed you may want to consider just cutting the old tank up in pieces to remove it from the engine compartment instead of pulling an engine (i know, this could be 'messy').....you would likely have to install a new tank with different dimesions to squeeze by the the engine but that does not necessarily mean you have to go with a smaller tank, just one with different dimensions which could have the same or even more volume than the original tank if you have a little extra room.....this would likely require a ittle plumbing work to make the hose connections to the new tank.......

as far as repairing the original tank is concerned, if it is made of PEX i was told by a manufacturer of PEX tanks that they cannot be successfully repaired and/or patched.....i found this to be odd given all of the advanced chemicals and adhesives on the market today.....maybe they just did not want the liability from telling me of a repair method and maybe they just wanted to sell me a new tank.....

I had a water tank fail.To get it out in one piece I needed to pull an engine. I cut it up with a saber saw. Took it to a place that made tanks ant told them I needed two tanks that were equal in size to the one. They put the fittings on as per original and a connection 2" pipe between them. See if this system will work for you. It worked well.

Ok, I just pulled the holding tank out. By the way slide the generator 10 inches and the tank comes right out. 1 hour tops. I found the leak it's coming from a hex bolt that is imbedded in the tank. It has one one each corner. Does any one know if this can be repaired or do I have to replace the tank?

I just reached out to them. They say that there is no repair that would hold. There is no warranty on the tank since it came with the boat. They gave me a price off 677.03 for the tank bare without any connections or discharge pump. I was able to locate the tank on line for 743.00 with everything same tank. The model is hts28

That's the exact place I was referencing above. I replaced mine a number of years ago, too. It was a problem that occurred during the mold process. There are repairs for polyethylene such as flame treating it first and I've done that successfully on other items. But this was not an item I wanted to do this on as I'm still not 100% confident in this type of repair. I bit the bullet and replaced.
