Have a 32' Dancer and a 27' SLX on blocks......done winterizing, need to remove batteries but wondering how do I close the engine hatch without batteries? Sounds kinda silly but I cannot figure out for the life of me!!! ANy help is much appreciated. I am guessing maybe on the 32' I can use a powerpack at the helm to provide power? No clue on the SLX.

Thanks for all who post on here! You guys are a lifesaver!

32 - Yes use the cable into the outlet as provided, then hook up to battery, then actuate.

For the other boat, can it be lifted by a couple of people? (watch you fingers). On the 340, there are two access panels at the top of the support rods through which you can reach to pull the pins and disconnect the rods.

This is usually used for lifting the hatch after a failure which requires manual access to the ER. Also, there is a brace to hold it open, but I wouldn't get under there with only that in place - I think it's more of a safety item as a back-up.

Why not just leave the batteries in the boat??? That's the easiest solution...

If batteries are all charged up, just break the circuit and leave them in.

My boat is stored outside in NY for the winter...temps down in the 20's and maybe teens if we get a cold spell. Didn't think they would like that weather too much. Heard I should take them inside and store. Just tried using shore power...that didn't work. On the 32' Dancer, hooked up my trickle charger to the helm (there's a distribution block or something underneath), but didn't work. Not enough power I think. Gonna research the manual a bit. Surprised there is no easy solution by manufacturer....maybe there is.

You are correct; the “trickle charger” is not going to provide the power you need. Make yourself some jumper cables and attach to your car battery if you can get close enough, if not pull your car battery out for the job. The distribution block you are talking about under the helm is a good place to hook up to, which is what I use. It is easy access to the positive and negative posts. Some on the board here use the accessory cigarette plug under the helm, but I could not. Wire size on the plug is too small for the current draw required...

I am leaving my batteries in the boat this season still hooked up, but they are fully charged and I have access to 110 volt power so I can run the charger every several weeks or so.

I must admit though I have the advantage of having the Marina directly behind my house. I can, and usually will check my boat on a daily basis during the winter, so I can manage the battery charging by plugging the shore power line in.

Not sure if this answers the question, but in my manuals there is a description of a pigtail and a lighter plug as the solution to dead batteries and an electric hatch. The pigtail is designed to hook to a 12v battery and plug into the cigarette lighter plug if the batteries are dead. In looking through my "stuff", there actually is such a pigtail device with the owner's manual.

thanks for all the advise guys! I think I'll make my own jumper and use the battery I pulled out, it's still on the boat. Good idea with the pigtail thru a 12V socket. A shame Searay didn't make a simple plug in for this purpose. What if your batteries are dead and your hatch is closed? Manual has a step to get access and disconnect the rods.....but that hatch must be a few hundred lbs on the 32! Oh well, it's almost done.
Thanks again for all the advice. Its awesome!
