Another calm morning on Lake Superior as we enter our home port of Munising Bay through the East Channel.

The harbor of Grand Marais, Michigan located on the East end of Picture rocks National Lakeshore.
They have a "state" dock just to the left of the pic.

Lake Superior lays down nicely for most days throughout the summer months. It's often like a sheet of glass.
Once late October rolls around the winds really kick-up often and hang around though March.
The famous "Gales of November".
Here are a few windy, late March pics after the ice had left - the wind had just started:

Miners Castle - For perspective you can barely see a deck type platform just to the right of the "turrets".
Note the two "turrets" - this photo I took was on of the last with both of them present.
Later that evening the inner "turret" was broken off by the winds - big news in our local paper :).

This is Bridal Veil falls that same day with the wind blowing the water up into the trees.

Thought I'd ad a few Off-season pics:

Awesome !

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pics! I'm jealous! I can imagine anchoring in that cove with the family for a nice evening under the stars. Fantastic!!

Thanks!
Geting cabin fever stuck between seasons - boats in storage and the big lake is not frozen yet to get out fishing.

where should I launch and are there any hotels you would recomend to use as a base camp?
There's a nice ramp facility on the North side of Munising Bay in Munising. There is also a state harbor with transient dockage. You can easily access the entire Grand Island and Picture Rocks Lakeshore from there (beaches, rock cliffs, shipwrecks, etc).
We have friends stay at AmericInn just up the hill in Whetmore - reasonable prices, very nice, kids like the indoor waterslide and pool. Roughly 2 miles from downtown Munising and marina.
There is also a Holiday Inn Express on a ridge with a beautiful view of the East Channel and lakeshore - much more pricey though.

Send a message when your planning the trip and for how long, we can provide details on suggested areas to check out - from land and water.

Thanks for the great Pics on a cold night in Wisconsin. I have never been to Superior but, your shots have peaked our intrest. Wish we had a trailer boat to run up there. That truley looks like gods country! Post more if you have chance.

Mike

Stunning photos and looks like a great area to go boating.

You need to make your own calendar!
