I just got my registration for my "new to me" 2003 380 Dancer. I need to replace the numbers on the bow, where do you buy some good ones? West Marine?

Hi Erik

Got mine at BoatUS - if you screw up (like I did) the next order is half off.
What I messed up was the reg numbers on the bow. I needed a bit of arc to them and initially got them straight - looked kinda silly. I'll find and post pics You will see what I mean.

+1 for BoatUS.

Hardline products sells 'packages' - they have (4) of every number and letter in them. They're not 'totally' custom, but they do have some nice colors and fonts. They typically range from about $10 to $25 per package.

Just out of curiosity, does Georgia require bow numbers even if you're Coast Guard registered?

Not required in WV.

In GA the numbers on the bow are not required if Coast Guard registered. You must register the boat with the state and put the registration stickers on port/starboard near the front.

I had a local graphics shop do this for me to cover up the fade marks on my boat. They put it all together then I installed it.

From the Handbook of GA Boating Laws and Responsibilities:
http://www.boat-ed.com/assets/pdf/handbook/ga_handbook_entire.pdf
page 24-
Larger recreational vessels owned by U.S. citizens may
(at the option of the owner) be documented by the U.S.
Coast Guard. Call the USCG at 1-800-799-8362 for
more information. If documented, the vessel is exempt
from Georgia numbering requirements but must display
the Georgia registration decals on the bow of the vessel.

I agree with Boat US. They keep a record of the order so you can reorder later if the decals get messed from a fender or buffing wheel.

is anybody else besides me confused by this?.....the way i read this it says documented vessels do not have to be state registered but then it says documented vessels must show the registration decal on the bow....

what am i mising?.....if the boat is not state registered it will not have a registration decal to display....

The boat must be registered in GA regardless of the USCG documentation and must display the state registration decal. No need to display the registration numbers.

Same here in NJ. I put the sticker on, which shows the date the reg expires. I do not display numbers, though the reg I carry in my wallet has numbers assigned to the boat.

ahhh, that explains it....a documented boat must display a registration date decal but not the numbers.....

They just want their money AND some way to keep track of who owns the boat.

No prob. Nice boat!

In DC USCG documented boats must still have a registration. However, it's cheap. I think about $35/yr for my 350. No hull numbers. We get registration stickers that say "Documented" and must go on the port and starboard side of the boat. We put them on the windshield by the arch, which is what most people do. On the port side it's right next to my USCG Auxiliary safety inspection sticker.

I've always had my numbers made at Fast Signs. They do a great job and you can customize any number of ways sitting at a computer in their place. They just print them off on vinyl with backing paper and you go to the boat and soap/squeegy them on. Done.

Just an application tip:
Use a strip of wide masking tape on and along the top of the application tape to line them up where you like.
If needed you can then put vertical cuts in the between the numbers to get an arc.
Lift up and peel the backing off of each number and squeegee.

This maintains the spacing and gives a nice clean look to the arc.

I don't know if this is the case in other states but in Ohio the Department of Watercraft is really cracking down on the proper display of registration numbers. Must be block letters, contrasting color to hull, and must have proper spacing between the letters and numbers. All to make the numbers more readable from a distance.
