Red Light /Speed Camera revenge

That whole story makes no sense. Unless the kids use the same make/model/color car as the represented by the phoney plates. Don't think so.

I guess they do not snap of photo of the driver like most red light cameras around here do. Two photos are mailed with the tickets. One of the rear of the car with the red light in view, and one of the driver's face.

I'm sure the person they've assigned to look up the license plates doesn't have the sense to cross reference the make/model/year off the registration too. That would make too much sense. They don't have to deal with it.....you do.

The person they've assigned?? Negative. The liscense plates are tied directly to the make/model/year/color via computer and the state DMV, not someone's aunt Edna in front of a Rolodex. The story makes no sense.

I'm aware of that, but when someone at the Dept, is reviewing the photo of the plate, I would think they need to look it up(in the DMV database). Bang, you get the ticket in the mail with your plate number, whether the car/truck matches yours or not.

I remember the story of where the guy got a ticket in the mail along with his pic of him and his licsence plate when cameras were first being introduced. He wrote a check and took a pic of it and sent the pic in. About a week or so later he recieved a pic of a jail cell. Pretty funny and I believe a true story.

One of my technicians went through a toll booth in Boston and his speed pass didn’t work, the Mass turnpike sent a warning with a picture of just the bottom half of the back door and the lic plate.

A lot of times it is not a government agency that mails the ticket. There are companies that offer to install the cameras for free. They maintain them and review the information. They are paid a percentage of each ticket. I doubt they care about make and model.

Kids now a days have more technology than they know what to do with. Whatever happened to just throwing an M80 into a mailbox?

Two pics: That means it will be possible for someone to exonerate themselves. . .maybe.

EZpass is similar in many ways.

If you are registered: No worries. Even if your transmitter glitches, they bill you (with no penalty) based on license plate.

I recently had an issue with an unmanned toll and a rental car. It took 3 weeks for the $0.75 bill - and $60 penalty - to show up in the mail. I was able to protest via email. My appeal was approved in three hours. I still had to pay the $0.75 toll. .. which I did with a credit card on their website.

Toll: $0.75. Two letters from the state: $0.82

I think it is only a matter of time until they use the technology for "speed averaging" tickets. . . .

Now if you really want to defeat the camera/ticket snafu there is this company that sells a special clear paint that you spray on your plates that masks the plate numbers from the camera. Pretty expensive stuff but I hear it works.

The problem, once again, is stupid people. This quote, for example is indicative.
Montgomery County Council President Phil Andrews said that the issue is troubling in several respects. "I am concerned that someone could get hurt, first of all, because they are speeding in areas where they know speeding is a problem," he said. Andrews also said that this could hurt the integrity of the Speed Camera Program. "It will cause potential problems for the Speed Camera Program in terms of the confidence in it," he said.
You stupid politician. The system has no integrity if it can be spoofed so easily. Because the relationship between the suspected party and the enforcement is tenuous and that there is no proper investigation and vetting, the system will never have any integrity. He's not just an idiot. He's a efing idiot.

I think it is only a matter of time until they use the technology (EZ Pass) for "speed averaging" tickets. . . .

That's the day they can have the damned things back.

Well Frank,

I would have to say stupid people in the city, county or state that allows speed or stoplight cameras.:smt021

In Anchorage, they tried to use these cameras in school zones. It was taken to court and the State Supreme Court deemed it unconstitutional as a police officer is the only one authorized to present a traffic citation.:wow:

Agreed this would never work as your vehicle; make, model, color and year are on the registration here in the show me state. Apart from a headache and time out of your day to correct this it should be null and void of the fine. But rather humorous. Maybe this was just some poor guys made up excuse to get out of the fine.

Yeah, but you're in Alaska. That's Maryland. No offense to you guys in Maryland, but more than three quarters of the population, like the rest of the east coast from the DC suburbs and north, are a bunch of sissies.

Best regards,
Frank

Agreed.

Maybe they already thought of doing this. . and realize anyone with a brain would do exactly that.

Regarding red light cameras: The integrity issue stems from the abuse . . where the "yellow" times at traffic intersections with these things are deliberately shortened.

Actually they have. Part of the debate before the system was installed included time distance speed and ticketing. Written into the... whatever it was, is that the system would not be used for speed enforcement. But the bastards can always go back and amend it.

Best regards,
Frank
