Rebuilding the Sanitation (Pooper) System

I have a manual head also.
Where did you find the fuse for your Tank Level Indicator. Mine doesn't light at all. I was going to try changing the float, but that doesn't seem to make much sense until I at least have something that lights on the indicator.
I just always pump out whenever possible to make sure I don't fill it up, but I'd rather get the Indicator working if possible. I even fill it with fresh water to the top before I pump out so that maybe things will cleanup in there before I ever have to take that float out.
BTW: My Macerator comes on with no problem when I turn the key, although I've never used it because I stay inside the bay. I bent my lazy butt over, and you're right. The second toggle on the side of the sink is for the shower pump.

On mine, the fuse panel is in the cabin, to the right of the steering wheel down near the floor, between the wine bottle holder and shower bulkhead on a small panel that pulls down. See the pictures above. On mine the indicator fuse is the second one down from the top.

I have two seperate fuse blocks under my dash. Neither has any markings on them. It's going to be tough to figure out which is which, but they all look good on those two blocks.
Is the light only supposed to come on when you flip the toggle switch, or is it supposed to be on all the time?
After I get this figured out, the next thing I need to work on is the indicator for the fresh water tank. That one doesn't light up either.

Mine only comes on when the toggle switch is on and only if there is fluid in the tank. Before I connected the new supply hose, I flushed and tested the system with bleach water that was in a 5 gal bucket. There is a way to test the system if you disconnect the wires from the sending unit. I believe there was a thread on that subject. Do a search and see what you get.

All finished and everything nice and neat.

I ordered my sending unit today. I decided to go with the Sealand TankWatch 4. It is actually made by Dometic. I had to special order it, because my cap has a vent line.

I will be glad when this project is done.

I just purchased an '86 270 DA and it has the crazy portapotti setup with a macerator / Y valve but no holding tank. My mechanic is trying to figure how to retrofit a good toilet. If equipped with a holding tank originally, it would have gone in forward part of the engine space, starboard side.

Has anyone put a new toilet / holding tank in one of these?

There is an empty space / enclosed box on the starboard side of the mid cabin berth. Doesn't seem to hold anything - just a fiberglassed box. Mechanic wasn't sure if structural or what. Anyone got an idea?

Thanks for any suggestions...

Mine is on the STBD side, aft of the fuel tank in the engine bay.

If you can make it work, go for it. Could it be a genny box? Did they put Gennies on 270s?

All Right project completed!!!:smt038

I received my sending unit today. I had to adjust 2 of the sensors, empty and mid-level. To adjust loosen the lock nuts on the 2 sensors and install the unit. On the empty sensor, you push it to the bottom and then mark the tube. Remove the unit and then carefully cut the tube 1 5/8 inch below your mark. Then I measured the tube and then cut the mid-level tube have the length.

I then put quick disconnects on the wire connections.

I found out that the original Sea Ray wire was only 3 wires and the new unit was 4 wires. I bought some wire 4-wire, 18 GA wire and had to run the wire from the head to the tank.

Here is the strange thing. The waste tank is on the STBD side behind the fuel tank. The head is also on the stbd side. With everything on the STBD side, why did SR run the tank level wire across the stern and up the port side?

Wired up the panel and tested. I also replace the old fuse panel with a 2-stake fuse type. Still need to make the wire bundle look pretty.

Tested the tank and all the lights work, empty, mid and full.

Good deal!

I think it's because the deck is actually built upside down at the factory...

Last night, I put the "pink" anti-freeze and blue stuff in the system. I also drilled a hole in the "Y" valve handle and placed a wire tie in it.

DONE!
