Really weird hatch, any ideas?

Yikes, I get the feeling that my post offended you Chuck? That was not my intention at all. It does look like most had a good time with it. I didn't mean anything by posting non SeaRay stuff.

Based on the fact that it is posted on a Sea Ray forum about a non Sea Ray boat, you probably will not get a good answer here???

Well this is it; Scroll down and look under standard equipment on the right side under the video

Bow stowage locker and built-in ski stowage

I just cannot find much else regarding this port-side bow door

Lets see if this will work

Select Regatta 2009, then, scroll (Slowly to photo 135)

How about this from page the bottom of page six

For 2009, Hallett Boats has redesigned and completely retooled its popular 40-footer. Though its clever port-side hull
access door remains, the boat has a completely different look than the original Hallett 40.
Then there is this posting from Frogman554 post #6 from Offshoreonly forum

I like the side door, good for the beach if you're grounded ass end out.

I'd love to see a picture of the cabin layout with this odd "door" setup.
While it would certainly make loading stuff into the cabin while on the trailer easier, I sure wouldn't want soaking wet swimmers (esp. saltwater) crawling into the cabin...wonder also about the clearance issue from the waterline. It sure would make for a bad day if a large wake ended up inside the boat...

It seems to be a Hallett "exclusive". My guess is, if it was something that go-fast owners really wanted, you'd see them on other makes as well. Does seem especially odd that it's on an offshore boat that would regularly see that hatch underwater.

Not at all.

I never see that kind of hatch before, very interesting...

I'm guessing escape hatch. When those boats crash, you always see that part of the boat bobbing up and down just above the surface. Mine would also have a blender.

Yah, but it would sure make pushing bales of weed overboard easy!

I'm guessing that hatch is fully enclosed and acessible only the the outside, kinda like a molded storage box on the swim platform of my old Chararral. Seems it would be under the seat on the inside. If glassed in properly, it would not leak into the cabin, yet provide a place to store and few things whent he boat is beached, or maybe even act as a step for getting back into the boat. Would be nice to have a pic of it opened!

That is what I'm guessing too with a telescoping ladder. However, how in the heck would you close once aboard? : 0

No need to go elsewhere, I’m sure that the “Technical Posters” will chime in with an answer soon enough!!! :smt043:smt043:smt043

Now that sure is an "odd" comment for a fellow with so few posts.

And you sure have a funny name..."Rebounder". It almosts sounds like you have been here before and got "bounced" and now are on the rebound.

Hmmmm..... Only a couple of fellows qualify for that...and you don't seem like you're from up North, so maybe you really live in Arizona and maybe you have a 240DA and maybe they used to call you:
AZ240DA

I did some digging as it really interested me as well. It turns out it is simply another way to gain entrance to the boat.

I found this at: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/hallett/193034-40-hallet-need-sell-asap-2.html

What is the deal with the hatch on the side of the boat?

It has been discussed on another forum at length.

I guess it's so you can hop out when you are beached. I REALLY don't like the idea.

Last thing I need is people to have access to the cabin with SANDY feet!

Not to mention the big water/high speed concerns with a hole in the hull.

They run this hull with the side door in the Pacific all the time, never an issue. They also run Lake Mead where 6'+ white caps are common without issues whatsoever.

I would agree with you if this boat was running 100+, but with mild motors, 80 MPH is the top speed.

When entering from the beach, the door sits just a few feet from the sandy edge above the water. So you shake your foot in the water before entering the boat. Simply put a towel in the boat at the entrance of the door to dry them and you have no mess inside. It beats the hell out of having sandy feet on the deck of the boat scratching it up.

I'll be honest, at first, I thought the same of the door as you did. But now just using it even while it is on the trailer is awesome. I could load the entire boat without having to even enter the boat. Just set stuff inside the door and close it. The door locks from the inside if you want to restrict access.

You and the turtle guy need to get a new hobby. Thanks for ruining a perfectly good thread though.

Some funny responses!

I did a double take when I saw it and knew I had to get pictures. I thought it was a damn dumb place for a hatch as well.

No,but it might be a Dikfur?

Hey, what's a Dikfur?

Bah ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Yeah, but the people on the Toys R Us forum are just plain rude..

No it's for your mother in law...

Or is that the same as a fender :smt017

Must be for really short people.

It's the external fridge door when your on a beach

You're calling this a "perfectly good" thread?

In the sense that it was without drama until the 35th post, yeah.

That's what causes a lot of the problems on internet sites......your thoughts, humor, facial expressions, body language, etc, etc.... don't always translate well from keyboard to screen to brain.....
