I am thinking about re-propping my 2000 270 Sundancer Bravo III to the 4 x 4 props. I currently run 22p props, but have seen studies where the 4 x 4's dramatically increased RPM, fuel economy increase of 15%, hole shot, and planning time was cut in half. Other benefits are no cavitation or falling off plane at low speeds. The props are very pricey, roughly $1,300.

Just wondering if anyone out there has made the switch?

I have been curious about these props too. Do you have any way to post these studies you read? Not because I doubt you but I would like to read them too. Thanks

If anyone does have first hand experience with these 4 bladed props I too would love to hear their opinions?

I changed from 24" ss bravo III to Signature 4x4 24"
RPM. same as before.
Topspeed down 2,3 mile.
Fuel economy same as before.
Hole shot and planning time better but not cut in half.
Handling and control better, no trim needed doing sharp turns.
Boat 270 SD 1995, engine 502MAGMPI, outdrive Bravo III.

thanks for the info.

Is there any noteworthy change to control/handling at idle speed? I've heard debates about 3 vs 4 bladed props being more or less responsive when docking or backing down etc.

Thanks
James

I would not say that there is a huge change when handling at idle speed, you will feel that the handling is a little better at idle.
With a single engine the boat will follow a more straight line when travelling where high speed isn't allowed harbour etc.
When taking the boat from idel to a plane, I would guess that you would cut 20-30% of your time and distance used with the 3 bladed ss bravo III prop.
My biggest disappointment is loss of top speed, I will make some further test at various RPM. to make sure that the speed and fuel economy dosen't get worse in the entire RPM. band.
Since the temp. in Denmark is around 40'F at the moment this will be done in a month or 2.

It's unlikely that any prop will have any appreciable effect on low speed handling. Your boat's handling characteristics are determined more by your hull design and the fact that you have a single stern drive more than your choice of props.
