Can just the antenna (spinning part) be removed from the base? I'd like to clean or paint it and wondering. I see 4 nuts on the bottom but are there wires inside that cannot be unplugged? Someone has to have done it.

If I remember correctly....undo the 4-bolts and the top separates from the bottom...no wires.

Do you know anyone that has painted one? I've wanted to paint my antenna for a long time but upon closer inspection the words "DO NOT PAINT" are molded into the plastic. :(

No problem removing the four nuts and antenna. But, make sure you lift it straight up and clear of the RF pin. That is a tiny pin waveguide in the middle of the base assembly - it if gets bent or damaged in any way the radar is toast. Get a large caplug and put over the seals and that pin so water doesn't get in there or the pin gets damaged. coat the O-rings with silicone grease when you put it back together.
I agree about not painting it.

No paint, but you can likely compound/wax it and make it look a lot better

Yup I kinda recall the no paint thing now. I never feel like unzipping the bimini to get up there. Instead I always pull myself up there but its only a matter of time before something bad happens. In the past I've used a diluted bleach solution which seemed to help. I guess I'll brave going up there again and doing it that way. The one we have is the rough molded plastic-not the smooth plastic thats on the newer versions.

I googled it after I saw this thread earlier this week. Of course Raymarine will say "don't do it" but here are a handful of their reasons, some of which I would not have considered.
