Fellow NJ boaters I am torn between Raritan bay or Barnegat bay. I will be looking for a good marina with a pool and clean showers, I used to use Wherlyn Brothers in point pleasant and had a great time there. Looking for other options.

I've boated in both and I would say Barnegat Bay is better. Shrewsbury River is too shallow and Navesink was completely Jellyfish infested this past weekend. It was so bad the generator strainers would clog in hours. The Manasquan and Metedaconk Rivers aren't too bad....yet!

It depends where you live, how far you want to drive, and what kind of vacation you are looking for... We live in Toms River, and there are a few options here, but if you want a real vacation spot, I would buy a slip in High Bar Harbor in LBI... If the north in of LBI is too far for you, I would probably try Silver Cloud Marina in Forked River... Forked River is in the center of the deepest and widest water in the Barnegat, close to Tices Shoal, and the in let... Water is clean. There are places to go to eat by boat and good places to get your boat repaired...

If you like to fish, Raritan Bay. If you're a cruiser, Barnegat Bay. We've boated in both and Barnegat Bay is MUCH more enjoyable. I could ride a bike to Raritan Bay from my house and wouldn't go back there to boat.

Barnegat. Bob is gone and Larry is back running Wehrlen Brothers Marina.

High Bar Harbor in LBI sounds good for us we we are coming from North..what are the rates like? Do they charge for just using the ramp to unload?

Another option on LBI is Beach Haven (Shelter Harbor Yacht Club). Three block walk to the beach, pool, hot tub and walking distance to many restaurants and activities.
Good Luck on your search....

Hey Ed - quick hi-jack. Have you been out LEI this year? Is it well marked this year?

Funny you should ask this question. I currently have my boat slipped in Rumson. The area is nice. Close to the beach and good places to eat. I find that I am bored there though. As posted... good area for fishing... not so exciting for crusing. I plan on going to Brick next year. Since I am coming from up the north I timed the trip on a Friday mid day. It took me only about 15 minutes longer to get there from Randolph, NJ. Traffic moved well on the parkway (friday afternoon) and there were not as many lights to contend with on RT 34 vs RT 36. I am quite o try out Brick next years. Hope to see you there. As far as the jellyfish....they are all over the place in the Navesink.

Another vote for Barnegat Bay. I totally agree with Ron's statement: BB=cruising, RB=fishing. If pool is a must you'll have limited options, but they're there. Same goes for the walking distance to the beach.
