Rant: Sea Ray Engineers/Designers

Update on replacing the vacuum pump on the Sea Ray. It is done!:smt038

Didn't lose too much skin, only took 2 men, a women (The Admiral) and a baby to get it completed, that plus 12 hours and tearing the salon apart to get to the 18" x 4" access hatch, disconnecting the exhaust hose for the genny. Several interventions by the local Priest to exercise the demons which entered my body after saying a few choice words about the stupid engineer.

I enjoy doing the work for several reasons
1. I am a cheap rat Bast****
2. What better way to learn you boat and its systems.
3. The celebration of several cold ones when the job is complete and a good cigar!

But it is done and the head is back up and running.....:smt038:grin:

But NO Crown Royal????????????????????????

No Crown, the heat index was 107 on Saturday, several ice cold beers and a couple of Mudslides fit the bill a little better than the Crown. Nice choice though, I prefer ElDorado 12 y/o rum.

I am a loyal Appletons 12 year old supporter.

Long gone are the days when you could sit on the inner fender to change spark plugs, but that is ridiculous.

Try changing the plugs on a 6.2 liter Denali - I thought it would be easy - I'm still trying to figure out how to do the left (PORT!) bank plugs! I long for the days when you could sit in the fender wells!!!

sometimes you have to remove the tire/wheel and the wheel well liner to get to the plugs from the side on some cars and trucks.....

Serviceability of machinery and equipment in heavy Road machinery, is a very different animal than a boat that is used by Joe and Sally every third weekend in the summer.

Right up until two of those "every third weekend in the summer" passes by because some relatively easy DIY fix is hampered by a PP design only accessible by a 4'11" Chinaman.

SR and others do these things at their own demise in favor of next weeks numbers.

We aren't getting any younger, more is demanded of our time at work meaning our leisure time becomes more precious. Add to that, the birth rate is down.

Is your next boat going to be the one you can depend on::::: or the one with that marvel of modern science so rigouously tested the US Navy seriously considered it for use on the Virginia class submarines, the gen 3 cool fuel module? What about your kid's first boat?

There is absolutely zero excuse for some of the sh!t they do at a factory that has to be undone by an owner/operator or a mechanic. It shows a complete lack of respect for the customer or the customer's time.

Have been considering a 34 foot Sea Ray, but after reading this and the deck coring issues I think I will pass. Had a Californian 34 once and it had great access to items, so know it can be done. It also was an older boat, 1984 but probably better built.
