Looking to install a Raymarine 2KW RD218 radome on our 280DA and noticed that there are both forward and aft leaning radar mounts available and was wondering what type folks here have before I make a purchase (fwd or aft).

Any advantages to either type performance wise or is it more visual appearance in nature?

Also what downtilt angle would be recommended 2 - 4 - 6 degrees?

Right now I'm leaning (pun intended) towards a forward leaning 4 degree mount.

Thanks Guys,

John

Forward leaning would look best with your forward leaning arch. Don't go crazy on the forward tilt, in most cases it is not even necessary. A lot of builders will put the correct amount of tilt on the mounting surface. If the top of your arch is pretty level with the water then I would stick with that. When you are really depending on your radar you will be operating in displacement mode so your boat will be in the attitude as when you are at rest.

Your best bet is to go to your sea ray dealership and buy the mount that normally comes with the boat.... I bought a dupicate when I needed one , makes the boat look better and keeps it directly above the Radar Arch where you want it to be... Also it's made for the Raymarine Raydome also....

Thanks for the input Guys, looks like forward tilt it is.

BTW Jim, I also sent in an e-mail request to BOE for a recommendation.
