Last summer was our first summer with a child on board. It became apparent that the vacuflush was way to loud and would wake up the baby. I'm looking for a solution to quieting this down. It's not the pump running that makes the loud noise, it is the initial pedal push that opens the valve to flush the toilet. Sounds like a big "woosh" which must be the pressure or something, idk.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this? The vacuflush is original on our 98 Express Cruiser.

We spent last summer with a 6+ month old aboard. I know exactly what you're talking about. The key (for us) was a very slow push of the pedal. Just let it barely crack the seal open. Of course, this only works for #1....not #2.

Another absolute necessity on board - white noise machine.

To really quiet it down you can turn off the head system. You can still flush once or twice without pressure. Zero sound. Once nap time is over, turn it back on and give it one more good flush. I did this a handful of times when the older kids were sleeping in the aft cabin area (closer to the pump) before we got the white noise machine.

It may be a case of flushing too often. There's an old boater saying--if it's yellow let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.

That certainly cuts down on the frequency of flushes and water use.

yes , but if your sphincter starts to cycle you stop to care and will push the pedal to the floor after you have brought obama into the white house.

Jump in the water. Fish don't complain about the taste.

You may ahve the original VG-2 vacuum pump. The newer VG-4 is much quieter. Dometic also offers a new motor/pump replacement kit that replaces the older motor/pumps and is quieter...

Don't be quiet when kids are napping. They get used to noise fast. My wife could run the vacuum under the crib and my daughters would just sleep through it. Maybe I was just lucky.

+1 My wife did the same thing.

Putting the lid down before flush helps, but it is still noisy.

+2 --- when our kids were babies we would let them cry themselves to sleep and leave the bedroom door open and not tip toe around. They got used to the normal sounds of the environment and could sleep through anything...they're now 12 & 14 and they still sleep through anything (although now we have them sleep with the bedroom door closed so mom and dad can have some privacy :)

I thought that you said that they could "sleep through anything".

I know this is going to sound crass and disgusting, but my father's been doing it for years. We all made fun of him for it until we bought boats of our own, and now we embarrassingly find ourselves doing the same thing. Just pee in a plastic SOLO cup or another disposable cup, discretely walk outside and dump it in the lake/ocean. Then rinse the cup and throw it out (or write "pee cup" on it and keep it, but don't get me started on that…). Obviously this only works for guys, but it cuts down on your pump-outs exponentially, and it's completely silent if you have someone sleeping. I even have a friend who pees in the bathroom sink and lets it run right into the lake. Just make sure you rinse the heck out of sink to clear the drain line.

I do the pee cup on my boat when the lake is too busy to stand on the platform. Peeing in the sink is just gross.... I don't care how much you clean it...yuck.

We do this when at the cabin - either because it's stupid cold outside or we're too "lazy" to make it down and out in the dark. We use jugs though - something you can close the lid on and deal with the next day when there's light.

I use a white noise app on my phone when traveling. Works wonders in a noisy hotel and I always have it with me. Might not be enough to cover the flush completely but it wouldn't cost much to try.
