+1 on Merten Marine. They are great! I have never seen full synthetic sold outside of a Mercury dealer (at least a brick and mortar store). I don't think they have a "Quicksilver Variant" of it for some reason.

Thanks Jason, that's the only thing I'm not going to tackle this year. My Marina will pull the drives and service and store and Vacuum and Pressure test them for a nominal fee!!

The synthetic-blend and regular dino oil are both 25-40. The full synthetic is 20-40. The only time that you HAVE to use the full synthetic is with a catalyzed engine... which I wouldn't think your 2008's would be? Other than that, you don't need to use the full synthetic or even any Mercury brand for warranty coverage (although you mentioned you're out of that, anyways). I'm not saying to use one over the other - just a common misconception that you have to use the best Merc stuff for warranty. But, do make sure you're at least using a good, FC-W rated oil.

As far as the pricing on the Merc stuff goes... well I don't really think it's anything like "price gouging" or even over charging. I think it just comes down to quantity sold. The more quantity that is sold, typically the lower the price - and there certainly isn't a large quantity of Merc oil being sold, especially when compared to the automotive side. Plus, Merc needs to make a profit and also the selling dealer so you have more "middleman" in the mix. In that case, it is what it is... but trust me, no one is getting rich from selling Merc oil.

Dennis, according to the "blend" bottle and a mercruiser tech i know synthetic blend is also approved for the catalytic converter motors.
