Does anyone have a recommendation for a low-profile, quick release radar mount that would work with a Garmin 18" HD radar? The radar is arch-mounted on a 340 and there's a clearance issue with the current fixed mount. I could leave it off but it seems like a waste of techie fun. I've been looking around and haven't had much success. Is something like this a custom build?

Update: decided I unnecessarily vented. Deleted post.

Dale, I also have the same height issues. I have to remove the radar and mount for transport at the end of each season. I added quick connects on the light wiring. I unbolt the radar at the arch and swing the radar still attached to the Mount under the arch and secure it with a tie down strap. Takes about 10 mins. Now that I am accustomed to what I need to do. I also did an extensive search to find an easier way but all I could find were the hinged mounts which would not help for our applications. I also would be interested if you locate anything or anyone knows of a product.

Dale,

Keep it down at "The Club" and you won't need that mount..........I'm guessing you got yourself a new boat.

Dale, you know the issue I have had. I wanted to do the same thing, but the trouble with all of the OEM hinge designs is you have a Bimini in the front and the back that gets in your way when you are trying to fold it back or forward. I went with a low profile wedge for mine which is about ¾ of an inch off the top of the arch, making the top of the dome not that much higher then the TV antenna. If you do that you may need to get a higher nav light, they were not going to pass my CC inspection because the radar blocked that anchor light view from the port side. I fixed that with a taller mask.

If you leave it on, you are going to occasionally have problems with the Bridge, but not that often. You just have to play the tide game more often now. It’s that or move. It seems like the tides have been more of a problem recently too, especially early spring and late fall.

Sorry I went dark for awhile.... Weeks leading up to Christmas didn't give me a lot of time to surf!

John, yep - we traded this winter and have a 340 that is under wraps and killing me thinking about it as we speak! We were able to get onboard for a brief period to do the survey, sea trail, etc before having it wrapped for the winter.

Bill, thanks for the information on the wedge.... everyone else thank you as well for your input. I'll check out the links that everyone sent along.
