Several questions about transporting a 2003 340 Dancer I am considering making an offer on.

1) Does the arch have to come off?
I have gotten some info on the transport and they said they would have to take the arch off. Anything I should worry about in removing the arch? This concerns me but the only thing on arch is a TV antenna - no radar.

2) I got an estimate for about $3K, with the boat in the water in Lake Michigan for a 500 mile transport. Is that reasonable?

Thanks!

Just the other day I saw a 2003-2005 340 being hauled on I77N in WV with the arch on. By the "port of" marking, looks like it came from Florida. I also have a dock mate that hauls his 2004 340 with arch on. Not sure about your quote, sounds high though.

Steve, Is there a reason/problem why you can't bring her home by the water ?.

$3k buys a lot of gas. Plus that would be a great Father & Daughter trip.

Maybe with their trailer and the route they have to take it's necessary. I know a dealer in the Appleton, WI area that took the Glowmax antenna off a 340DA going under an overhead.

Steve,

I bought an 03 340 this year from LOTO....and had it transported to Lake Michigan. The arch stayed on but all the electronics came off. It was more than 500 miles and I paid more than $3k. My transporter removed everything himself, and reinstalled it all. I chose the transporter because he came so highly recommended by everyone I talked to. It all worked out well. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I used to tow my 330 and removed only the radar antenna and glomex antenna. During the summer months with all the road construction going on there are many normal routes that are not available to wide load tows. When that happens they have to go around and that sometimes involves pilot cars to travel on 2 lane roads and that just adds to their "cost to tow".

I'd check around a bit and see what you can find about prices from other tow companies but before you sign on the dotted line with anyone, check them out on google to find out if there are many unhappy customers out there.

I had my 2007 320DA transported from St. Louis to Charlotte a couple of years ago and it was moved without removing the arch. They removed the Glomex & GPS Antenna, and nav light. I paid about $3500.00 for that trip plus a fee in St. Louis to have the boat hauled out, the bottom power washed, the antennas removed and the cockpit shrink wrapped.

I vote for this idea - great time of the year for a trip like that.

It really depends on the total height of the boat w/arch and the trailer configuration. Not every trailer carries the boat at the same height, and some might be too high to give enough clearance with the arch up. When I had my 310 shipped, they removed the radar. I believe my overall height is 12', plus a few inches for the navigation light when lowered. According to SeaRay, yours is 12'1", so it should be possible to leave the arch up, depending on the shipper's trailer and the route.

As stated, it depends on the trailer and the route. My 340 came from Charlotte to NY, and the arch had to be removed due to the height of the trailer and the boat combined. If you have a transport company that has a low ride trailer, then you very likely don't need to drop the arch.

I routinely (twice per year) bring my boat to and from the marina, and I do have to pull my radar, TV antenna, anchor light, etc. Basically, I am ok with a low ride trailer if I strip the arch. So, depending on the trailer, I would recommend that you at least strip the arch, just in case.

Mine 05 340 came from NV to MA with Arch on, everything stripped off.

over the last month, i've been trailering my 290 around a lot. it's not a 340, but i still knocked my Glomex antenna off :(
on the trailer, i'm just under 14'. i've had to be very careful to only stay on major roads.

Towed mine from Detroit MI to Neenah WI. Did it myself and yes pulled the arch. If I am not mistaken it is the same boat. (edit* Just check...Not quite the same) On my trailer with the electronics off I am at 13'9" at the arch. I trailer it around a bit during the season, but know the roads I will be taking it on. When coming home I did not want to worry about the overpass heights as we saw some that were marked lower than 14'. We opted to pull the arch and put it on the bow wrapped up in blankets.

I am with everyone else on here about taking home on the lake. If you need help let me know.

Just moved my '05 340DA from Michigan City, IN to Erie, PA a wide-load run of about 480 miles for less than $3K. Made the run w/ everything off the arch and with the arch up. Talked to a number of haulers and only one indicated the arch would have to be removed. Considering how finicky refitting canvas can be, I elected not to disturb the arch.

I bought my 310 in Fl. and brought it back to IN. with everything on with the exception of the Glomax antenna.
Just measure the boat height after it is loaded on the trailer. I was just a little under 14.0'.

If you are looking at the one in Grand Haven you should for sure just take it across the lake!
