I don't have my owners book with me and there's a chance of fog in the a.m. . Does anyone know how to set up an alarm if another boat comes within a ring near your?

Thanks, David

It doesn't work that way...

You have to acquire a target first using the cursor and the MARPA button and then the system will track the target as it moves. This assumes you have the gain and such set properly for the conditions you are in....

Actually you can do this. It is called a guard zone and can be set up to monitor a specific sector around your boat. It's been a while since I used this feature on my E-Series, but while in radar mode find the soft key for target tracking. Then there should be a choice for monitor in zones, and you can have more than one zone. Then you have to use the cursor key to modify the shape of the zone - it's a pie shape or a ring extending out from the vessel.

Gary was referring only to the MARPA function, which is also helpful, but different.

Probably like Furuno"s Nav Net

Inward and Outward alarms.

Outward alarm will set off alarm if a anything comes into your outer circle.

Inward alarm will set off alarm if a target leaves your inner
circle
Set the distances you want.

Set the 4k radar at 1/2 mile.
Not even a bird can sneak up on you.
It will illuminate a red dot the size of a dime.

The alarm is nice when your away from the screen at anchor.

You are right... I forgot about the guard zone stuff. I've never used that feature... I always use the MARPA feature.

Here ya go promocop! I posted something wrong!!! run with it!!!

Thanks Guys. It wasn't as heavy as last week and we didn't hit anything. I guess I am gonna have to read my owners book now.
Sorry I provoked you to make a mistake Gary. It must have been the way I worded my question or something...my bad.

On my Raymarine you push the alarm button when you have the display set to radar. There is a guard 1 and guard 2 option. Push the button again and your options show up for distance and shape of the zone. I don't use the function other than to see how it works. As was pointed out MARPA is very usefull, especially in tight shipping lanes. It displays time to a target and how close you will pass. It's very helpful if you can not see the target because of distance and you are wondering if you are overtaking a ship or closing. Range, bearing and speed are displayed.

You'll find guard zone is also useful if you're anchored out for the night- and want to know if another vessel approaches. I haven't gotten around to it yet but plan on installing a remote alarm in the salon (I'd never hear it in the cockpit) for that purpose.

Man... I don't even remember putting that post up there...

Those drugs were really good!!!
