290 Sundancer
Engines
5.7Liter
Hi,

I'm purchasing a late 1997 290DA. Same body style as 1998-2001. It has 5.7 twins with AlphaI(220 hrs). Boat has only been in salt water a few times according to owner. No signs of rust or saltwater use. Boat views extremely clean (9 out of 10). Would be interested in hearing about great places to look around the boat for damage of any kind, know problems with 290DA's, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

In general check out the above site. The author has some great information. He even has sample survey reports.

In particular, I do not know of anything specific to that boat but I know this from the prespective of a 270 owner. A lot of surveyors do not do much of a detailed review of the engines so it would likely be worth having a seperate mechnical survey of the engines.

Does the 290 have the aft facing lounger on the port side? I think it does. It is my favorite feature of my 270.

Hi Lone,

Thanks for the link. I'm having a survey like that done. The 290 has the aft facing on the starboard side...sink,etc on the port.

Get the maintenance records... Need to know when the water pumsp where replaced, and the rubber (bellows, shift cable, etc.)...

Low hrs. for a 1997...probably the weakest point will be the maintenance of the outdrives. Check for corrosion of zincs and housing. If the bottom is good and the boat is clean, you're in luck. Compression is probably not a concern, but ask for maintenance records.
