Progress 1 Windlass Missing Parts

I have a low profile Progress 1 windlass that suddenly is missing the lock nut and washer (508 and 510 in this diagram https://www.p2marine.com/documents/lofrans/lofrans-progress-1-manual.pdf)

Is it possible to operate the windlass manually without these parts?

Also, how is it possible that these parts are suddenly missing other than someone helping themselves to them?

So the answer is you don't NEED the lock nut to operate the windlass. It is simply a backup "safety" which when tightened down guarantees the windlass cant freespin/deploy. According to an excellent rep at Imtra, this part was mandated for a short period by Sea Ray for liability reasons. It was not the original design of Lofrans.
