Has anyone ever take this actuator apart to give it a good cleaning. If so did you take any pictures and how easy is it to do. Ours need a good cleaning and greasing.

Thanks
Connie:huh:

What makes you say it needs a good cleaning and greasing? Is it binding? I thought the same with mine and was dreading "X" boat bucks in repair or replacement costs. I was working on something and accidently spilled some liquid wax on the actuator. I wiped it off and darned if the thing didn't start working like brand new.

Hi David, It is just running slow and there is alot of old grease on it so we just want to give it a really good cleaning.

We too have done this over the years and it is starting to look a little nasty so I thought it would be best to clean everything. I don't know if it is even possible to take the shaft apart.

It's a sealed unit and not a lot to clean. Extend the unit and clean it with any grease cutter; a little Dawn dish detergent and water comes to mind, then lube the unit. As silly as it may sound, I do the hatch and vent actuators every time I take Saint Max out. I use the paper towel I wiped the dip sticks with. Make the rest look as nice as possible and get a sunbrella cover. I'm sure someone here has the pattern or a source for it. Here is a link to an actuator thread. They aren't cheap OEM or aftermarket.

Thanks David. We do have the cover for it and the slide really looks nasty.

BTDT. Found the nastiness of the slide is what was hampering the actuator.

If after using the Dawn and it still is not to your satisfaction, try some Flitz or Wenol.

Mine finally died late last year so I ordered a replacement (from Progressive Automations)and finally made time to change this out today. After disconnecting the "T" bar from the inside and did everything else from the deck. Hardest part was removing the screws holding the plastic cover (note to installer - you do not have to torque 4 panhead screws to 6000 lb!) Took less than an hour and works great

Hi Windjammer,

By any chance do you remember the model # you purchased. Also, how did you measure for the new one, and were there and mods that need to be done with the new one. We need to replace ours.

Thanks
Connie

Ordering one now.

You Guys/Gals Great post's. This is good info to have. Thanks, JC

I was having similar problems with linear actuator on my 2004 340 Sundancer windshield vent. I was able to take the actuator apart and with a little gentle force remove the threaded extender assembly from its housing. Inside i found a lot of old grease build up and some corrosion on the limit switch contacts and track. I cleaned it all with contact cleaner, lubricated, and reassembled. Works great now.

I have replaced the helm switch twice and it has taken care of my problems...
