I'm sick of wiping up all the hundreds of tiny dead bugs off my dashboard with a paper towel every time I get on the boat (do they go to my boat to commit suicide??).

I want to get a little handheld rechargable vacuum. Anyone else have one on their boat and want to recommend a brand/model?

All of the portable/rechargeable models I've owned have been terrible. Includes DeWalt, craftsman and Ryobi. Not worth the money as they don't last very long. If I had to buy one now, I would get one that uses the newer battery technology (Lit Ion).

This is the one you need:

My brother use to be an engineer at this company. Battery life is very good and the best feature is that little flip down tube for tight corners. Works awesome. Has great suction too. I've had several. So, far, perfect for the boat.

We've been using a Black and Decker the past two years. We charge it before we head out and it lasts about two weeks of daily use...

The white knob is the washable filter insert. We have a dalmatian on board so it is a must to take with us...

We bought it at WalMart... $49 (more expensive due to the high power...) I'll replace with another one if/when this dies.

I actually cover this topic in my book... yeah... the book that no one can buy.

I have a Dyson Root 6 (as shown above by wet paint) and it's a great vacuum. I judge vacuums on their ability to remove dog hair. If you have a dog that sheds, you know that dog hair has this magical property that after it falls 12 inches from the dog, it entangles itself into the fibers of the carpet, pillow or anything else it touches. It actually will weave itself in and out of sunbrella better than any sewing machine could ever hope to do with a thread and needle. The cheap 12v vacuum cleaners don't cut it with that property of modern hair physics. The Dyson Root 6 does pretty good...

I also have a built in vacuum and we use that as well... I've bought some air powered attachments (small beater bar, sticky rubber dog hair snatcher, etc) to help with the issues...

Wonder what Kearney would do? Wait... doubt he could find a dog that liked him...

Well I have the Dirt Devil 120V hand held and I’m not impressed. It’s noisy and hot but has little air flow. I tried other brands and found them to be just as bad. So we use the dirt devil for minor touch ups.

The marina club house has a full size 120V vacuum cleaner. Its way better. I’ll get to the boat early from time to time and use it.

I have a dirt devil and I don't like it.

If you're not all hung up on being cordless....I have a 9 yr old cousin to this. You can get a lot of sucking for $36 bucks from this...stores easily in my dock box. Most people don't even know they exist. Shop Vac calls it their "Hang On" model

I have both...
A Shop Vac...can't remember which brand. Got it @ Lowes for under 50.00 & a cordless Dewalt 18v. The higher volts the more power....it was less than 60.00. The shop vac goes in the eng. compt. and the cordless goes in the aft.

Sweet Dreams, I just bought that VERY setup over the weekend. I first hit my cabin area, then the cockpit area and all the channels that seem to hold the crumbs and crap. Then after that i popped the hatch and picked up the little corner of water that's been driving me nutz in the bilge. I think it works friggin GREAT!!! I then put it back in the box and loaded it into my dockbox for the next obsessive compulsive moment i get:thumbsup:

Ha, good deal! We were thinking of mounting it on the boat somewhere and with the long cord we could indulge our OCD tendencies any time we wanted!

Got an Oreck car vac with the cig lighter (under the helm on the 340) attachment and it works quite well. I use it for simple touch ups when I don't want to drag the central vac system out with all it's attachments. Picks up most everything and is simple and quick.

I just noticed the other day that my 290DA had a central vac...lolwtflol

I guess I need to get a long dang hose for it.

On a lighter note the misses is gonna hate when she hears this.
