"Portable" fresh water hose

That green type is not rated for drinking and like someone said, will leach lead or chemicals into the water. Most food grade are white and will say so on the pack. I found mine at Walmart and it is the type with three hollow channels and rolls up flat without having to squeeze out the water. Just reel it up and it flows out the free end and gets put away. Easy without the squeezy. Only around $20 for my 30' if I remember but like Todd said, 50' is the most useful. I've had to get creative in my routing to get from the dockside water outlet a couple of times.

I hate threads like this. I was innocently reading, then followed the link to Amazon. Next thing you know, I am buying two fire hose nozzles (the one I bought at bass pro shop is crap)

and this:

For the love of God, please stop posting links to Amazon before I am distitute.
CSR could adopt the motto for the head-fi.org headphones website: "Sorry about your wallet."

I use two of the white RV hoses. They are both 25 footers and it's rare that I need to use the second, but it does come in handy once in a while. I get odd stares when I pull up to a dock and put MY hose on their hose bib. The typical garden hose imparts a terrible taste to the water so you know you're getting something leached into your water. I can taste it even after letting it run for a while. I've also noticed the water in the tank tastes a lot better.

save you money on the flat hose. They don't roll unless you "push the water" out of them flat, they mildew over time and are not rated as sanitary hoses. Lot's of boaters buy them...lot's regret it after a few years! get yourself a Swan white drinking water hose and learn to coil it right.

I had one several years ago... I think it is in my crawl space somewhere... When I would roll it up on the dock spliters cut into it and made holes which I put duct tape on. It did get mold on it too. I have plain old white hose for RVs that is flat, but made of rubber, and folds up nicely... I would not buy anther roll up hose...

WHAT??? You actually drink the water from your tank?? How dare you........:smt038:grin::wow:

(Just stirring the pot a little)

Every since I stopped using Pink in the water system, and used compressed air for blow out the lines, the water tastes ok, but we still typically don't drink from the tank...

That's like saying I will not drink the water in your RV???

Some of you guys and gals would have issues with me then. I have, in Alaska, pulled up to a water fall and fill my water jugs. You just have to be carful the water isn't coming from a beaver pond...........

You're my kind of boater! I always drink out of our tank! It's clean and we use it all the time. I refuse to pay for bottled water! It's a scam and a waste of money since the quality standards are questionable and the material they use for the bottles can leach into the water! It's also a pain to store the bottles before and after they are used! Believe it or not, I've filled up our tank with lake water from ONE lake where we boat! The lake cabins all have supply hoses direct from the lake and periodic samples indicate it's some of the cleanest water they've ever tested! I guess most folks don't trust their ability to sanitize a tank or something? It's no different than the storage tank in their own home or down the street where the city keeps the water stored!

Hard to believe how popular this thread is! Not to get off topic but we use our fresh water tank for drinking all the time. It probably helps that we run through a full tank at least once if not twice a weekend. I'm always topping it off due to showers, wash downs, the dog, clean ups and now I let several gallons of super hot water flow through my sump pump to keep it clean.

Yeah, some folks are freaky weird about drinking from their own freshwater tank! I'd bet that there is less "stuff" leaching from that tank than the water bottles they drink from!

OHHHHH You are stirring the pot now!! I have also drank water from a "green" hose when I was a kid and I am still around!!!!:smt043:lol:

But I would recommend a white RV hose.

My dentist used to give me liquid mercury to play with while I waited in the waiting room. did you know that when you drop a blob on the floor it makes a bazillion little mercury balls?
