FWIW, there is a pretty cool 10" portable fan made by Ryobi ($40) that works great for boating. It accepts either 120V from an extension cordor their standard 18V power tool batteries. I'm not sure if its still available but the previous fan model is $10 cheaper but doesn’t accept 120V. The mack daddy 4Ah battery ($100) lasts all night on high. Lower capacity, lower cost battery options are available too.

We keep two fans, three batteries and one charger on board. We rotate the batteries on the chargerwhenever on shore power, the gen is running, or during the day when we don’t mind the draw on the inverter. Using the fans on 18V battery at night has reduced the load on our inverter batteries.

The portability is great, allowing placement in the salon, helm or cockpit during the day and in the staterooms at night.

Interesting timing :0) Thanks for that! It gets pretty hot under the black canvass on warm sunny days and I have been looking at better fans. There is a 12V 20A power port at the helm, and I was thinking of using that for one as it works off the main battery bank. I like the idea of a portable 18V utility fan. I have some Makita Equipment already and it looks like they make a similar fan that would use the batteries I already own.

Great info
I'm going to take a look at it since I have 10 of those batteries to power all of my Ryobi stuff. I also have one of those multi battery chargers mounted on the wall in my garage so there is always a supply of fresh batteries.
