I'm looking for input/suggestions on what might be the solution for this:
Our port tachometer is being temperamental. It'll work for a bit, then stop, then come back up for a while, then stop working. It also affects the sync gauge.

I posted this in the 340 Sundancer thread and received the suggestion to turn the knob/screw behind the gauge. Did this, but still have the problem.

Waiting for your thoughts

Thanks!

Is there a switch on the back to select 6 or 8 cylinders? I've heard to slide this back and forth to potentially clean any possible corrosion that is there.

Yes, that's the screw we've turned, about a 1/2 turn each way.

Thanks for your response. Any other thoughts?

My starboard side tach occasionally exhibits odd behavior. Usually reporting an RPM that it too high. A quick tap with my finger usually re-sets it. But it does not interfere with my sync gauge.

Some manufacturers have lifetime warranties that will allow you to return it for a flat rate and they will refurbish it for you (Faria?). But I don't even know the manufacturer of my gauges...they just have the Sea Ray logo on them. :smt001

Have the same problem with mine. Port side also. I tried switching tachs and does the same thing so it's not the wiring or module at motor.
Bought an other tach from MarineMax and ran OK for the first summer and now does the same as the other. Tried the turn nob thing and no go.

We're going to try switching them, see what the issue isn't, maybe. We're also going to follow the wire to the coil and check all wires....

Don't just switch it back and forth once. Do it several times to give it a better chance to clean the contacts. Hopefully, that will solve your problems. It has worked for me in the past as well as two other of my dock mate's boats.

OK, thanks! We'll try it out tomorrow. I'll let you know if major turning works! Fingers crossed!

Turning the blue dial on the back worked for me. Turned it manymany times. They work perfect now
