While I'm glad that justice has prevailed, it would seem that spending $50K per person, per year to keep these morons (attacking a US warship?) locked up for the rest of their lives is just nonsense. If they each live another 60 years....that's $15M (without cost of living adjustments and trial costs) that we pay for the privilege of having them here.

Does that ship not have guns? I think they could have saved us a lot of money, maybe 2-3 verbal warnings followed by a few great big missiles through the center of their boat would have got the point across.

The USS Nicholas is a Frigate (FFG-47) with:

As built:
One OTO Melara Mk 75 76 mm/62 caliber naval gun
two Mk 32 triple-tube (324 mm) launchers for Mark 46 torpedoes
one Vulcan Phalanx CIWS; four .50-cal (12.7 mm) machine guns.
one Mk 13 Mod 4 single-arm launcher for Harpoon anti-ship missiles and SM-1MR Standard anti-ship/air missiles (40 round magazine)

I personally like the Vulcan Phalanx and four .50 calibers to repel boarders......

Yeah I agree. There needs to be a mandate to "Shoot to kill" and sink these guys!! Send them to Davey Jones locker and be done with them. That will stop Piracy!!

We are so stupid! We are broke as a country and going to feed and house non-americans for life. Piracy is an act of war and they should have been killed or call the Russians to get the job done. Our leaders are killing us from the inside out, Mike.

"including the use of a rocket propelled grenade."

I think they would have been justified in blowing them out of the water.

Like I said in another thread.

If it looks like this:

Do this:

They should have tried them on the spot and made them walk the plank. Live by the sword...

Yes the M2 50 cal. is a nice "Reach Out and Touch" Weapon!:wow:

Ok....we're not looking at this as a glass half filled! Maybe they'll get killed in prison and save us money, Mike.

A little shower soap action for them first!! A quick death is too good for these a-holes!

I don’t know about that..all the time they spend floating around miles from shore in those crowded boat, they may enjoy that, the shower and soap action.

Set them adrift in the middle of the ocean with no paddle, food or water. Better yet, put them all in a boat in the middle of the ocean with enough food for one day and a knife. After a week if there are any alive then shoot a hole in the bottom of the boat.

"Today's sentences should send a clear message to those who attempt to engage in piracy: Armed attacks on U.S.-flagged vessels carry severe consequences in U.S. courts." - Neil H. MacBride, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia

Yea that's a quote from that article...for real! Seriously? Severe consequences? So let me get this straight: They were living a life of piracy in SOMALIA. And so we bring them to the United States, give them a roof over their heads, three meals a day, activities, books, TV...and this is severe? In relation to their brethren, they are now living a life of luxury in the U.S.A.!

I do not understand placing them in an american prison. I agree with the "eye for an eye" theory. They are punished by what crime they commit. Spending the money to keep these douche bags locked up doesn't fit the bill for me. A bed and three meals a day and cable tv doesn't seem so bad when you come from the enviroment they live in. Adrift in shark infested waters with a sinking boat and fresh cut wounds seems good to me!

Nail on the head....Prison for them is MUCH better than normal life in somalia.
God help us.

I personally like the mark46 idea it looks cool on mchales navy, but in person im sure its much better.

They ATTACKED a US WARSHIP! I always thought that was an act of WAR??
+100 on the Vulcan. < than 10k for ammo and its OVER!

I have the perfect solution.

Put them on a remote Aleutian Island with the clothes they were captured in and walk away!
