Hi, I was reading another site and some where talking about not using the "Pink stuff" because when compared to Prestone Low Tox and Sierra the pink stuff doesn't have the extra corriosion protection? Thanks John G

The "pink stuff" I bought has corrosion protection, not much, but it is cheaper than the other "stuff" you mentioned... I don't think I will keep my boats longed enough to justify the extra money...

I think he is talking about winterizing, not as a coolant.

Thepink stuff is used for winterizing because it is non-toxic to people, animals, fish, etc., compared to the green. If you get pink stuff intended for use as marine antifreeze, it will have sufficient corrosion inhibitors. If you buy the less expensive pink stuff used for winterizing mobile home water systems, it will have insufficient corrosion inhibitors because the RV water systems are mostly PVC or some other type of plastic.

I think this summarizes it for most of these types of A/F. I haven't seen any without anticorrosion properties but I suppose the real cheap stuff at Walmart (for 3.50 or 3.99) may not have it - would have to validate.

"West Marine Pure Oceans -60° (-51°C) Marine Antifreeze provides the ultimate in cold weather and corrosion protection for drinking water systems and all engines. Its premium additive package prevents corrosion of aluminum, copper, brass and solder, but will not harm rubber, seals or hose materials.West Marine Pure Oceans -60° (-51°C) Marine Antifreeze provides the ultimate in cold weather and corrosion protection for drinking water systems and all engines. Incidentally the pink stuff my dealer sells is rated to -50. This has an extra -10 for the same money.

I hope it works as that is what I winterized both the fresh water system & engine with this year.

I see West Marina has it on sale (on-line) If you go to the store its always more, but if you by it online and have it shipped to the store i belive you can get the lower price. The 3X-died bright pink color provides excellent blow-through visibility. Formulated with non-toxic, virgin Propylene Glycol (30% Blend), it is tasteless and contains no alcohol. This product is ready-to-use; do not dilute it. Provides burst protection to -50°F (-46°C) and freeze protection within a range of +12°F to +16°F (-11°C to -9°C)

If you walk into any WM store and tell them you found it online for less, regardless where they'll match the price rather that watch you walk out the door.

Empty water tanks can not freeze or burst... Anyone read the warning label on this stuff? Please do so. I lost a dog due to ingestion of it given by a neighbor... It is deemed "safe" in very low doses... but so are lots of poisons...

why anyone would want to use this stuff in their drinking water (especially if you have pets) always surprises me...

Potential health effects

EyeCauses mild eye irritation. Contact may cause irritation, tearing, and burning pain.SkinCauses moderate skin irritation. Contact with the skin may cause erythema, dryness, and defatting.IngestionMay cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Low hazard for usual industrial handling. May cause hemoglobinuric nephrosis. May cause changes in surface EEG.InhalationLow hazard for usual industrial handling. May cause respiratory tract irritation.ChronicMay cause reproductive and fetal effects. Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. Exposure to large doses may cause central nervous system depression. Chronic ingestion may cause lactic acidosis and possible seizures.

Veterinary data indicates that propylene glycol is toxic to 50% of dogs at doses of 9mL/kg, although the figure is higher for most laboratory animals. However, it may be toxic to cats in ways not seen in other animals.

I like the defatting part of the warning!!! I wonder if there's a miracle drug in there somewhere??

Not so in this neck of the woods. I showed a copy of an "on-line'
Price for somthing i was going to buy last year and was told that its an on-line price and we don't match any "on-line" prices. So I left and have not been back (except for an emergency.) There is a reason why most people call is "Worst" Marina

That's what I used to do. No more. Now they go to the website where you found the item for less, plug in a zip code to calculate shipping and add the shipping cost to the price of the item. If it is still less then their price, they'll match it. Happened to me a month ago.
