Pic of my new Tractor

Very nice. You should have a lot of fun with it. A few years ago I rented a back hoe for a week to do a little yard work. Hertz dropped off a brand new John Deere 310G with the plastic still on the seats. What a fun experience that was. It is amazing how powerful those machines are. I didnt want to give it back.

Vince,

A couple of years ago a doctor in the next town over from us rented a similar job from Hertz as well. Except he nipped a gas pipe and blew up his house. Fortunately no one was home.

I've heard instances where these have been rented out, and the renter hit overhead lines and knocked them down.

I've used one of these before(a long time ago - when I worked on a farm during my youth), there's a lot to keep aware of while you're doing it, that some folks don't think about. They are fun!

I was surprized that Hertz would rent something like that without any prior training. They actually gave me a 15 minute rundown on how to use it. The rental location wanted to know if I wanted one of these instead.

You can't expect a doctor to operate such delicate equipment.

Now that would be fun.

I was moving around some dirt tonight just cause I could.

Like a kid in a candy store! I'd do the same thing!!!

I remember the first time a rented one of those...:grin:

Jim,

Woody's idea is ok, but since you are moving other people's boats, I'd skip the bracket and drill the hole in the bucket the same size as the ball stem. That way there is no degradation in the strength of the connection.

Henry
There actually is no loss of strength. If one was concerned because of the pin, first consider how many trailers are on the highway with a 5/8" pin holding the ball mount in the vehicles receiver. When you put the ball directly on the bucket in time the threads get beat up and make r/r a chore, it can also have negative effects on turning radius depending on where it is mounted. If the bobkat is expected to be a multi use machine then time/$ can be saved by useing the pin.

Good point, Jim forget what I said.

Cool Jim. Now here's a neat trick: Put the bucket all the way up, and get it going as fast as possible...then turn the wheel all the way to left. It won't hurt a bit...

... I'll get her in the saddle this weekend.

 HEY this is a Family oriented sight!! I am reporting You !!

Have fun ! I have been threatening to rent one for some "yard work" but my wife is afraid I will blow up the house... I told her "I aint no doctor!"

She didnt get it, fortunately she doesnt read this site

Great looking tractor Jim!
Now here I thought I was all cool with my little JD 2305 then I see Chuck, Frank & others have like 5 or 6 real tractors each :smt009

I put a receiver on a carryall I have on the 3 point hitch that I move a 14' cargo trailer & an 18' landscape trailer with. My tractor won't even lift the boat trailer much less move it anywhere.

Go dig around on this site. You'll find plenty of ideas on mounting a ball.

You should check out the Turbo Diesel Register Forum (Cummins owners). Got a bunch of guys with pick ups that want to pretend they have big rigs.

And what is wrong with that? Been a member there for 9 years now. Cummins are the best in trucks!

I was a member for a 3 years back in 98-01 (I had a 97 Dodge Cummins with a full Banks diesel system). I have recently gone back to lurk around there looking for info on the 2010 Heavy Duty. I have a 2007 6.7 now (great motor by the way).

I like the content when it comes to speculating on what's coming and some of the to-the-point tech talk, but cannot stomach the stupid my truck is better and bigger with more torque than a "Furd" trash-talk. To paraphrase, "...to hell with the ole lady's kitchen remodel, or trip to the beach, I got to get me a bigger turbo/exhaust system/injector pump, etc.....".

But that's just me.....:)

I'm going to have an attachment made for the front to have an arm with a ball on the end to move trailers around. Otherwise I don't have any cool attachments. My bride will get on it and hopefully like it. Its so easy to operate. I'll get her in the saddle this weekend.

Cap'n Jim

It may be harder to get her on that tractor than you think. I had occasion to speak to your missus via email about an order of mine. The conversation went something like this:

Hi Beth

It has arrived at the office, in apparent safe and sound condition. I’ll open it over the weekend, but, I don’t anticipate any problems.

Tell Cap’n Jim to get off the new tractor and go back to work.

Thanks for your business!
Rick

You're tellin me! Get back to work and home to the family! I can't wait for the newness of that tractor to ware off!!
Glad to know the raft arrived.
Thanks,

Beth Maier

I thought this was a family oriented website:huh:

I sold my Kubota years ago when I sold my landscape company. I wish I had kept it. Now I am reduced to renting every couple of years when I need it. I save up all of the projects I have to do for the weekend I rent it.
