Ok .... I loved the pictures of all your pets. Now here comes the question. How did you train them for overnight trips when you are ankering... do they go on the new mats I have seen? where it collects all the urine ... or what ?

I would love to take my gabby one over night trips.

Any suggestions on how and what kind of training would be appreciated.

What kind of dog, size and is it full grown or a puppy?

My 5 month old dalmatian can hold her urine all night. My previous dalmatian never had a problem either. Worse case, they go on the deck aft and I would wash it off. I'd never yell at them however.

You can use those training pans that look like grass. They work well. We have one set up in the laundry room when we leave for the day, we lock him up in there and he uses that.

We also train our dogs to ring a bell at the garage door when he wants to go out to do his biz... We'll be bringing that on the boat as well...

We have two miniature Daschunds, when we are anchored they use a wee wee pad that "clips" to a frame to catch any edge shots. Poop is picked up with toilet paper and gets flushed down the head. We also keep a bottle of Nature's Miracle on board for clean ups. All available at Petco or Pet Smart.

Let them off the boat to do there thing at night, just as you would let them out before going to bed at home. They should be able to hold it until you wake up in the morning. They'll adjust to the routine, but it's a good idea to train them with a back up plan on the poop deck!

That is why I bought a dinghy - I run them in as it is getting close to dark - and then run them over in the AM.

We trained our Golden Retriever to do her business on the swim platform. Also, when we anchor near the state park, we taught her to jump in swim to shore, do her business, swim back and climb the ladder... But we do have a Golden, so it my be harder for other dogs...

What a beauty.....

Great thanks for all the replies. Gabby is two years old and well trained. She goes out in the even and then in the morning.

I like the ideas ... to take the dingy to the shore ...use the swim platform ... and have the little pan as a back up all good ideas.

As far as the ringing the Bell goes ... hmmm.. :smt043 ... we are not there yet, but clever.

Thanks

Gabby likes the water but will not swim (voluntarily)

I trained my Shepherd to find the nearest bayliner and swim over there, climb up the platform and dump in the cockpit.

Actually, she swims to shore to do her business. If it is an beach or otherwise populated area, someone joins her to clean up the mess. But a man can dream, right?

NEAREST BAYLINER???

THATS FUNNY.....:lol::lol::lol:
