PacNW Winter blast

According to the news, Seatac isn't as much closed as several of the airlines just don't have enough aircraft deicer on hand... They didn't plan for the need to last this long.

As for global warming, some of the hard core will say that a more severe winter is a sign of global warming as global warming is more about extra energy in the system that needs to be balanced. That's supposed to mean that all storms are more severe and extreme... Hence more snow and cold in the dead of winter. My main beef with the global warming crowd is that they assume the external energy into the system is a constant and if someone with a brain were to look at the solar output they'd find that the sun is not a constant source of energy. I haven't looked at the raw data, but a friend that has said we've been on an increase that last couple of decades. That's right, the huge nuclear reactor 93,000,000 miles away that runs on gravity contracts and expands changing it's output... just a little... but enough to screw with our weather.

You may have more than 2' at your place.
We are getting hammered right now.

Got return reservations with SW on 30th. It was cheaper than changing my AK reservations. I can use my AK ticket next summer when we return to NY. Hopefully, weather will not be a concern by then.

Going into the city to check out the Rockerfeller tree and other stuff we missed last trip out here in November this coming Friday if the weather holds. We have 8 degrees out now and last night the house lights flashed on and off for about 10 minutes. Never saw that before. We had some wild winds last night and can only guess the winds had shorted out a transformer or broke a power line on our block.

This past summer we had a bit of a hot spell and I heard some factoid that said that the mean temperatures haven't been this warm in 400 years. Initially your reaction is one of "Man, maybe there is something to this global warming thing." Then if you think about it, that means 400 years ago it was equivalently warm! And they didn't have all the manufacuring, vehicles, etc...that they do today. How did it get so warm back then? I'm with some of you, I think that it is a nartural global cycle that we go thru. Let's get some more long term data to base our decisions off of, before we go cry foul.

Not a big deal for areas of the country that get a lot of snow, but for here in the Puget Sound area, this is a lot:

Al Gore's next social issue? You heard it here first...drum roll please...He's going to say that windpower is taking "too much energy" out of the atmosphere, and it is slowing the earth's rotation rate.

Priceless

:smt043:smt043 :smt043Great... Now we'll have to deal with the "global rotation deficit" crowd, too.

We can fix that, though. Make all of the streets and highways eastbound only and tack on a $2 per mile (except in NJ/NY - $6) westbound tax to change the behavior of people who insist on driving west.

Merry Christmas!!!
