Given that my fuel is limited and I rarely go farther than 30 miles offshore (longest trips are 100 miles or so), I can't wait for this trip. It has been 3 years since I last went to Guadalupe Island to go White Shark diving. I drive down to San Diego a week from today and leave early Friday morning.

22 hours under way to the island. 3.5 days diving with Great Whites and 22 hours back. No email, phones or interruptions. I can't wait and would encourage anyone who not only loves boating, but actually getting into the water, to experience one of these trips if they can.

Will do. My Avatar is a picture from the last trip...

Enjoy... I wish my dancer to make it that far with our running out of gas... Next boat...

Are you taking your boat? What speed do you cruise it at? 8 knots?

Had to laugh out loud at that one. I am going on the Solmar V, which is dive boat out of Cabo, that is 120 feet long. I will be boarding in Ensenada and I believe we cruise at 10 to 11 knots. It takes 22 to 24 hours in transit. We dive with White Sharks for 3.5 days, then make the trip back. I'll post some photos or video when I return for those that are interested.

Makes sense. Was wondering how you were going to avoid running out of fuel.

Wow - I totally read this thread as if he was taking his 340 to the island.

Re-reading it now, it does sounds that way. Sorry for the confusion. What's even more interesting is that hardly anyone stepped in to say that taking my 340 nearly 200 miles offshore, to go diving with Great White Sharks, was a bad idea!

Nothing from that coast shocks us anymore.

At least once a month, we sit here scratching our heads wondering what the heck you folks out there are smoking.

That is a fair question to be asking out here...especially since it is legal in CA.

Not sure I would do in my boat or yours although I have the range to do it. Problem is there is no Sea Tow if something happens. Your ride sounds like the way to go.

Even if my boat had the range, there is no way I'd do it. Almost 200 miles from shore and these sharks are 12 to 18 feet in length. There are up to 6 in the water at any given time. I think I'll stick with the 100+ foot boats made out of steel for this trip. ;-)

You have over 400 mile range?

Sounds like fun to me!

No. We can do 200 miles at cruise speed and about 300 miles when we slow it down. The 200 miles part is a piece of cake that we do several times a year. I'm assuming that fuel is available at the end of the 200 mile trip on the island he is visiting.

There is nothing on Guadalupe island. It is a desolate island that is part of the migration pattern for Great Whites every year between September and November. No one is even allowed on the island without a special permit from the Authorities (we will never touch land...just boat and water).
