Omicron, the sequel

Jim Jordan Urges CDC To Do A Natural Immunity Study And Compare It To The Vaccine - YouTube
This is the kind of content that I was hoping the 'sequel' thread would be used to post and leave the play ground antics to the original Omicron thread, which I was more than half expecting to be moved to the holding tank since it was getting pretty snarky over there.
This is an interesting interview and raises really good questions about how our tax dollars are being set on fire.

It's not - plenty of countries in Europe are ending all restrictions...the jig is up!
I sure hope so, the wife and I are itching to go roam thru Europe again. take a long postponed river cruise and sit in the piazza in front of the Pantheon in Rome again but I won't go until this Covid crap has normalized and I won't have to wear a compliance muzzle while sitting in my first-class seat on my trans-Atlantic flight.

We just did a trans-Pacific from the east coast so 12 hours or so in the air masked. PITA, but you get used to it. I'm not sure I won't keep wearing a mask when it makes sense. Sitting in First Class while 300 others trooped by got me thinking of masking up for boarding even when it's not required.
The big thing to worry about is testing requirements. To get into the next country we are visiting, we have to arrange for a PCR test within 24 hours of departure (not easy). If we can't do that, we have to get antigen tests before departing (still not easy), then pay for a PCR test at the arrival airport. Everybody arriving then takes an antigen test and are issued one to take with them that has to be turned in on the fourth day in country. This is for the vaccinated. Unvaccinated have to get special permission to even get a pass to get on the plane, then lots of testing as well as mandatory quarantine for a couple of weeks after arrival.
To get back in the U.S., you need either a test or "documentation of recovery", which is proof of a positive test within 90 days and a healthcare certification that you had and recovered from covid - so natural immunity is being recognized, at least for entry to the U.S.
And the rules are different based on where you are going. Travel is going to be daunting until these restrictions are eased - masks being the least worrisome IMO.

So my daughter is not vaxxed and has managed to not get COVID yet (as far as she knows) but has to get tested weekly, which was yesterday. She texted me today to tell me that the vaxxed lady that did her test on her has now tested positive today and they contacted my daughter to let her know. BTW-her test from yesterday came back negative

Testing the vaccinated like this... To answer the question on everyone's minds...covid will never end...

Make up your mind.

YOU posted about countries testing the vaccinated - not me! If the vaccine worked, why on earth would they be testing the vaccinated?!

As long as there are countries out there doing that - it will never end...

It is refreshing to see some countries pulling their heads out of their asses...but until everyone becomes like @Carpediem44DB and say NO until the pull restrictions...it will never end...again - location dependent!

The vaccines are extremely effective in reducing severe disease, hospitalization and death from covid. But, they don't eliminate all infection and transmission. The countries you cited as eliminating restrictions haven't removed the requirement for testing on entry for vaccinated and unvaccinated who can prove previous infection in the recent past. They don't want anyone bringing in a new variant and/or clogging up their health care system (unvaccinated but not previously infected can forget about travel overseas, at least for now).
It's a good question as to how long these sorts of travel restrictions will apply. The fact is that almost every single nation on earth has some amount of travel control measures in place. It's simplistic to say they all have their head up their asses.
But, right now is a great time to travel IMO; you have the place pretty much to yourself wherever you go. The only thing that worries me is having to isolate if we pop positive on one of the tests we have to take, but I've got contingency plans for that if it should happen. If and when the travel restrictions are completely gone, it'll be back to crowds everywhere.

Well just talked to my mother. My step-father is going in for cataract surgery and had to go to his Dr for pre-op. He is vaxxed. Got a call today that the nurse that was in with him tested positive today. So that's him and my daughter both possibly being infected by those supposedly 'protecting' the public from COVID

Sorry to hear @boatman37. Hope they do ok.

But, but, but - remember - "The vaccines are extremely effective in reducing severe disease, hospitalization and death from covid.":rolleyes::rolleyes:o_Oo_Oo_O:D

Yeah, There is no place on earth that I want to visit bad enough to put up with any of it. It was bad enough just dealing with customs and airport security screening before covid. If it never gets back to the old PITA, No problem, been all over the world already so if I spend the rest of my days watching the sunset from the deck of my boat, I'll still die a happy man.

Who are these idiots you guys keep finding and why the F would anyone listen to them?

I agree, the "pro vaxxers" (remember not to call me an anti-vaxxer, I'm vaxed. I am pro vax choice), sure the F go to great lengths to find these extremist view points. Makes me think they aren't secure in their position or something...:rolleyes::eek::D

We have gone to Cozumel at least once a year every year since 2001, we have not gone the last 2 years because of the travel related bs. I pray things return to normal, but until they do, you won’t get me anywhere near an airport.

Went to Cancun a few weeks ago. Going there was no different than before Covid. Just need to get tested at the hotel, 24 hours before heading to airport. I don’t think Cozumel is any different, besides great diving! If we weren’t so busy choosing a resort for my daughters wedding, I would have jumped on a ferry to Cozumel for some diving. We ate and drank too much and had a great time - Life is good!
