OMG I wasn't barnacles.

Looks like your bonding system needs examined and you really need to get some zincs on those shafts and rudders. I'd replace that garboard plug fitting, its almost burnt off. That had to vibrate like mad with that destroyed prop.

After 10 yrs of in water storage I went down in the beginning of april to fire her up and go out for a run to blow off the bottom. I had a vibration so decided to haul the boat home for a cleaning and painting. I was expecting barnacles.

Never made it past 1500 rpm I'm perplexed. Not sure if it from me, the dock, or another boat. It was out last June. Why did the tab buttons not burn up?

....... Why did the tab buttons not burn up?

Your tabs, and the tab 'buttons' are isolated from your bonding system. That is why they exhibited normal wear. Which would lead me to think that the real problem is in the bonding system......either on board or at the pedestal

Yikes! That wasn't very far from sinking was she?

Wow, thats bad. I would look at your mercathode and bonding system. There is an out of water resistance test, and an in water test for the mercathode system available from mercruiser. Your bonding system, if it is orig. is a ZINC SAVER system, the control box should be up under the port side cockpit side panel. Its a black box with a silver and blue label on it. There should be a testing procedure available on line. Hope this helps.

There's no such thing as a mercathode system on that boat.

What are those things in the last pic, some kind of zinc blocks?

Those are eel grass strainers that 'used to be' attached to the bottom of the hull over the sea scuppers. Looks like the attaching bolts corroded away...

OK, I see where they attach now. There is definately something seriously wrong with your bonding system, all the thru hulls and the drain plug have all been attacked but the tabs are OK as their zincs are protecting them and only them. It would be a good idea to replace any thruhull fittings that show sings of damage in order to prevent a 'sinking feeling'. I'd guess there are some broken wires in the bonding system or perhaps just a lot of corrosion on the main terminal block. Mine is on the transom on my DA don't know where they put it on the WE.

I use one of those zinc 'fish' attached to my engine block and hung over the side as extra protection, you may want to check into one.

+1

I would also suggest to check with other owners in the marina for similar corrosion. There might be a larger problem. If so you could think of adding an insulatin transformer

Did you ever replace the hull zinc in that 10 years of "in water storage"?

I have an 88 300DA and it came with my boat, I have the original information and manual from 1988.

That might be because your boat came with Mercury outdrives and you have to do all kinds of fancy stuff to keep the outdrives from becoming the anodes on the boat....

The boat in the pictures has inboards.

It might be that the weekender, not having out drives, may in fact not have a mecathode system. It makes sense.

Chris and Ken, Do you guys have the zinc saver system on your sundancers? Mine has a bronze bonding bar that is about 3" x 12" and 1/2" thick that is mounted on the under side of the hull on the starboard side aft. It has a bunch of monster green wires that go to all of the through hulls and not sure what else. I am tracking them all down. I have no information on this system and dont know how to test it to see if it is working correctly. 4 Suns, you seem to be well versed in this equipment, do you know about this bonding system? Are the bonding plate and zinc saver two different systems? This is a first for me. Thanx guys. David
