Hello all

I have searched this forum many many times to find solutions to my 87 268 restoration project and it has been enormously helpful. But one area that didn't seem to have any solutions to was the repair of the older style Taylor Made low profile hatches. The handles in my opinion are poorly designed and built therefor they all seem to be breaking. I searched the web and all suppliers for weeks trying to find replacement handles for them but no luck,,, I also did not want to fork out $500++Ea. for 3 new hatches.

So I finally came across a solution with a different clasp that interesting enough is also made by Taylor Made, with a reasonable price tag of $20 for 2 clasps. I decided to try to modify my hatches with nothing to really lose and I have to admit the result is beyond what I hoped for.

Since I was removing the hatches to repair them I decided to do a full rebuild of each one and reseal them properly, the past owners had gooped silicone all over them trying to seal them up I guess and they looked hideous. The Lexan was also faded and needed to be freshened up.

So here's a pictorial of what I did (if I can load them) and hopefully it might help others that are in the same predicament I was in.http://imageshack.com/a/img921/4661/VOC0qN.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img924/7833/fsaBA8.jpg

I also plan to re-bed and seal my hatches on my 300 this year, and also polish the Poly. its a very delicate process.

I found the polishing to be the easy part, I used Mothers headlight repair kit available at any auto store. I'm sure other similar products would work as well.
